Depressing weekend ahead on the Gulf Coast
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT13/refresh/AL1311W5_NL+gif/234113W5_NL_sm.gif

"The large size and slow motion of the cyclone during the next 5 days
is likely to produce a prolonged period of tropical storm
conditions and heavy rainfall over portions of the northern Gulf
Coast."

Although sometimes sitting on the porch with a glass of wine watching a storm can be fun. Fellow Gulf Coasters, try to stay dry and find some fun in all this.

I hope none of that oil is spread up here though. Sucks I have to worry more about BP than the Tropical Storm.

1. Stay safe.
Don't take any unnecessary chances. Not only do you have to worry about the Gulf oil spill, but there's another one in the Mobile river. Grim. I can hardly wait for the pipeline to get approved.NOT!

2. There's a spill in the Mobile river?
That sucks. Mobile Bay is a great estuary.

4. Yep.
I posted this yesterday, but it dropped like a stone. Couldn't compete with "dategate", I guess.

6. I'm sure.
We started the year that way, but we are all caught up with our rain now.

Up to 20 inches maybe out of this.

7. check out today's cool satillite loop of the area.

VERY impressive how much water vapor is moving around the whole Eastern seaboard.

9. You really like that site, dontcha?
:P

My only wish for it would be some kind of key besides the color graph, so I knew what the water densities were, maybe by humidity percentages :)

11. I think the color graph under the loop image gives a hint.
Darker the color, more water vapor? That is how I was blearily reading it, anyhow.

12. Yes, that's how it works.
I was just wanting more information ;) Just some idea of where that color-bar graph starts in humidity and up to what level for the highest. Because I don't think the lowest is 0% percent humidity. If it was, I'd be long dead from static shock! :P

14. It is very fascinating to watch those loops,
and then the "floaters" when there are storms of interest :)

There's a "Weather Watchers" forum here that doesn't get any traffic any more, but it might be a good place to pool all of our links and online resources for everyone. I'll make a thread for that in a while, but here's the link to that forum if you want to go first:

10. We will be getting some of that rain here in North Georgia.
It will probably reach NC after it passes through Georgia.
