Tom DeLay, Convicted Criminal, Goes Unpunished
Tom DeLay was convicted and sentenced for money laundering, but he's out on bail pending appeal. That's not justice. Convicted criminals should have the right to appeal, but they shouldn't wait until their appeals are exhausted before reporting to prison.

This is another example of Republican hypocrisy. Convicted criminal Tom DeLay belongs in jail.

1. Republicans are above the law.
Laws are for the little people.

2. That is correct. And the absence of a sarcasm smiley is correct as well.

3. Well, I'm of two minds on that score.
I would like his appeal process to proceed with all due haste, and I would like the conviction to be upheld....but I really don't like the idea of paying for his food and lodging if the unlikely occurred and he was not convicted of the charges as a consequence of an overturn on appeal.

We all have a right to appeal. I hope his exercise of this right is futile for him.

4. I too want to see Bug Man get the punishment he deserves
but, like you, I want it done in accordance with the law. Satisfying though it may be to imagine Bug Man cooling his heels in some shithole state prison, he has rights that I *hope* would be there for me or anyone else. My main gripe is that the wheels of justice are sofa king slow in turning!

6. Pending Appeal
DeLay shouldn't be walking around "pending appeal." Tom Delay was convicted and sentenced. Yes, let him exercise his appellate rights, but in the meantime he should be serving time.

What are the chances that an ordinary felon would be walking around out on bail after sentencing?

9. When a judge makes a decision on whether to let a sentenced
defendant stay on bail or be jailed pending appeal he looks at the likelihood of success on appeal. The standard that is used is if the defendant is likely to win he stays out, if he is likely to lose he goes in.
