AAAAAUGGGGHHH!!!! Just saw on TV an ad to promote tourism for the Gulf
sponsored by BP.

I shit you not.

"We're open for business."
"No, make that we're open for fun."

Mississippi, Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama.

Clean, blue Gulf waters. The giant shrimp. The restaurants.

Hey! What happened to all that BP oil????

1. Part of what BP agreed to do was ...
help revive the economy of the coast.
The ad is just part of that agreement.
They aren't doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.

Give the business folks on the coast a break, they've suffered enough already from events out of their control.

2. Having BP as the sponsor makes it seem disingenuous as compared to
even the Chamber of Commerce.

3. What's the problem?
If I wanted tourism back, I'd expect BP to pay for the advertising.

6. I've been to Destin three times this summer and have not seen any oil.
I don't know what happened to the oil but it is not on the beaches nor do you see any when fishing.

7. Our beaches are fine right now.
In fact, the fall is one of the best times on the Gulf Coast. Most of the summer crowds have thinned, the weather is still warm but lost it's extremely hot edge, the fishing is better, and the hotel/condo occupancy is lower/cheaper.

Part of the deal with BP is to help rebuild the tourism they destroyed.
