Petition AT&T to bring back 5000 call center jobs from Asia regardless if they get to buy T-Mobile!
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/att5000usjobs/

So, I read that AT&T will bring back 5000 jobs if the US government would allow their purchase of t-mobile. That's so sleazy. The gov't doesn't seem to find that offer worthy to approve such a massive monopolistic deal. So, I support this petition above. Americans need jobs, and AT&T knows that, and they offer to give Americans work if they can get a bigger monopoly? Nice.

AT&T is behaving like a typical slimy corporation!

1. "Extortion"
The Repubs used it during the "debt ceiling crisis," now watch for the Big "E" to be used more and more frequently as a means of getting something more when "doing the right thing" just isn't enough...

3. call center jobs are boring and low paid and tend to be temporary.
no many in that line would tolerate it for long.

6. $11/hr to start; goes to over $25/hr and is a Union job.
So, fail.

9. Thank you. That is obviously low pay to him. I found that a bit of a demeaning comment he posted

as there are a lot more lower paid and aggravating jobs (fast food anyone? I've done that way back in the day) out there. That pay may be low to that gentleman, but the jobs paid up to 35-40K in the mid 90's, and that wasn't even management. The long term employees who took calls, knew their stuff and a lot of that skill is lost.

8. I was a call center rep & processor for a major insurer for 7 years. You may personally find that
work beneath you, but it supported hundreds of people's ability to have a home that I knew up North, and nearly 10000 across the USA in the 90's for this one employer. Those jobs are gone. We lose. These companies gain.

10. Many call-center workers are UNION workers who negotiated a fair wage and benefits. nt

14. ty for your post! I am really surprised at the post we replied to. Maybe he just finds it boring
from his past, perhaps, but it is/was a long-term decent job with health care for many I know, and it paid their mortgage and car, plus allowed them save a little.

That is all history with all these jobs being in India, Bangladesh and the Philippines. In 2007 outsourcing of jobs overseas was estimated to be around $150 Billion.

13. don't make me feel guilty! LOL
I miss you, too! :( Hope you have overnight help. I saw one of the other late niters (NRaleighLiberal) is no longer a mod after doing it for a year straight. Hey, it's more booze from the liquor cabinet for you and a better seat in the hot tub at least, you're old hat at modding now, take advantage of the extras that come with seniority!

15. I know!
One more buddy gone... and who's going to make the list now? :(

There does seem to be overnight help, good news for me, and they're welcome to the drinks cabinet, since I'm in AA, so it's coffee for me... ;) :donut:

But you're still sorely missed...

5. If the deal doesn't go through AT&T
loses $ 3 billion. They made that part of the deal that if it fell through T-Mobile would get the $ 3 billion cash.

This will clip T's cash position pretty severely so I wouldn't expect them to be fdoing much spending for a while if the deal falls through.

11. Thanks for the info. Sadly, everything seems to always be about shareholder profit, and all else
is lost on their decisions. This really bit them in the butt, it looks like. AT&T will be ramping up money to the other candidate if so. Oh, who am I joking, they would have been supporting the GOPer anyhow.
