DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have announced that Amway will be the team's presenting sponsor, the first time the franchise will have a corporate partner in this category.

It's a multi-year agreement that builds upon last year's initial partnership which featured the Amway logo being incorporated on all Red Wings practice jerseys and pucks.

"We're elated to have Amway as the first presenting sponsor in Red Wings history,'' Tom Wilson, president of Olympia Entertainment, said in press release. "The unique similarities between our two companies make this a natural alliance that will enhance all areas of our operations, including player nutrition, fan experience and our dedication to the community.''

The agreement will include substantial branding initiatives at Joe Louis Arena. Amway's Nutrilite brand was named the official vitamin and nutritional supplement of the Red Wings.

1. Guess the Red Wings front office didn't do the research on this company.
Thought the Wings had more sense than signing with a scumbag corporation than Amway.

3. A friend from Michigan has long said
that the family (families?) that own Amway own Michigan. Including the government.

(But I'm guessing hockey fans will now agree they've gone too far.)

Right-Wing Billionaires Invest in Wisconsin's Recall Elections
John Nichols
August 8, 2011

Organized by Michigan billionaires Dick and Betsy DeVos, Americans for Children is officially nonpartisan. But Dick DeVos is a former Republican nominee for governor of Michigan and Betsy DeVos is a former chair of the Michigan Republican Party. Together, they have poured tens of millions of dollars into the ideological and electoral infrastructure that supports school privatization.

“Dick DeVos has used his family’s fortune and status to create an intricate national network of nonprofits, political action committees and federal groups known as 527s that effectively fund the political arm of the school voucher movement,” notes a People for the American Way study of the political projects of the heir to the Amway fortune and his wife. “Nowhere is the impact of the DeVos family fortune greater, though, than in the movement to privatize public education.”

AFC chair Betsy DeVos has for decades been a high-stakes political player on behalf of school privatization. But that does not mean groups with which she is associated always play by the rules. One DeVos-led group, the political action committee “All Children Matter,” was fined a record $5.2 million by the Ohio Elections Commission after being charged with illegally shifting money into the state to support candidates considered friendly to private-school “choice” initiatives. It was also fined for political misconduct in Wisconsin, where the group’s 2006 campaigning violated campaign finance laws by expressly urging voters to cast ballots against legislative candidates who backed public education.

Those troubles led to the evolution of “All Children Matter” into “American Federation for Children,” which has collected money from a who’s who of right-wing billionaires, including the political operations of Charles and David Koch—top donors to Scott Walker’s 2010 campaign and, in the case of David, the subject of a much-publicized prank phone call to Walker during the current dispute in Wisconsin.

4. Professional sports are businesses, and businesses are about money.
The fans aren't going to quit watching because of the sponsor. Ethics are a lower priority than sports, for most Americans, in my perception. If I was a big sports/Detroit Red Wings fan, I don't know if I would quit watching.

It is probably a great business move by both the Detroit Red Wings and Amway.

One roll lasts one day, at most.

One roll will do a whole bathroom window. That's what people are saying.

10. As a condition of the sponsorship, each player will be expected to recruit at least two new players.
Edited on Thu Sep-01-11 05:33 PM by Buns_of_Fire
Of course, every other goal scored by the new players will be credited to the "Level 1" player's statistics. But that's no problem, all the new player has to do is recruit MORE new-new players to have some of THEIR output credited to the new player's statistics, of which a certain percentage will also be credited to the ORIGINAL player's statistics. And so on, and so on...

14. You're familiar with it too, I see.
Back in my younger and (marginally) dumber days, I attended something similar to this in Florida. Glenn W. Turner -- Koscot -- thank whatever for my skeptical spouse, or I'd STILL be eating cosmetics for the next hundred or so years...:hi:

Our lives were hell for 6 months til Mr Gray told our sponsors sponsor to take his "born again soap and shove it up his ass."

21. Have you ever heard that old rumor about Proctor & Gamble
being owned/operated by devil-worshippers (proof is the sun and stars logo of Proctor & Gamble)? Amway and their distributors start and re-start this rumor every few years - Amway covets Proctor & Gamble market!
