Bachmann believes people should pay their employers to work.
Forget the Overton Window of small steps pushing forward more radical ideas. The Republican Party of today have gone way beyond that. Think Overton Airplane Hangar. (as suggested by so called "moderate" Republicans, to making people pay to work for their company.

Many teenagers that come in should be paying the employer because of broken dishes or whatever occurs during that period of time. But you know what? After six months, that teenager is going to be a fabulous employee and is going to go on a trajectory where he's going to be making so much money, we'll be borrowing money from him.

Michelle Bachmann, someone whose ideas would have been rubbished and laughed off a few years ago. Now a serious Republican candidate.

No minimum wage, so never mind internships with no pay, affordable to those who are connected, menial jobs that young people pay to do. After all, every young school, college or university leader has money to pay the poor impoverished corporation.

3. Yeah, let's screw young people a little more than they already are.
Millions of good jobs have left the country, college is so expensive that many kids will be little more than indentured servants to pay off student loans, and don't even get me started on the environment, the social safety net, our fucked up health care system, etc.

Michelle Bachmann isn't just crazy, she's cruel.

more I'm convinced she needs some serious psychiatric help.

5. Bring back the jobs from China
by ending the minimum wage in the US. Oh, yeah. Let's pay people 10 cents a day to compete with China and the b----ds can still have their PROFITS. This is what the TEABAGGERS want. They want to turn the USA into a Third World Country. Our Founding Fathers, and all our immigrant ancestors, must be turning in their graves.

8. This used to be normal not that long ago, at least in the UK
People would pay for their kids to be apprenticed to a profession or trade. It typically included room and board too.

I doubt it's likely to make a comeback, although vocational schools are not that far off the same idea even today.

9. that sounds just like her
but I can't find a link anywhere. Well, I found a million links to that quote, but none of them give links to a newspaper site. I've heard her for years on the radio and it sounds like something she would totally say, but i need links for everything.

10. Okay....
I have no problem with an employer that sets out conditions of employment including paying for broken dishes, etc. unless the breakage occurred as a result of no fault of the employee (i.e. someone bumps into a busboy/girl carrying a tray of dishes. But she somehow suggests that the employee should be sucking up to the employer. No.....employers use young people to get grunt labor for cheap. I worked there myself...two years at a restaurant and two years at a motel. They are pillaging the youth for their financial gain.

11. First abolish the minimum wage for teens, then pay them $1.00, then
make them pay for broken dishes.

Yep, you'd be paying for the "privilege" of working . . . .

So, in a rather circular fashion, some of us are already doing just that!!

21. Then she should lead by example, forgo her salary as a Representative
and pay the government... until her competency rivals that of a teenager with 6 months' experience waiting tables. That would go a long way toward fixing the deficit.
