Slapshot Twin gets no Bux
Remember that flap where one twin made a difficult hockey shot worth $50K? His dad then came back and said it was the wrong one of his twin sons.

Today the insurance company that was to pay the prize said the kid gets no money.

Someone, however, says there was a $40K gift to a hockey program and each kid got a scholarship to a prestigious hockey camp. It was unclear to me, in hearing the news report, who was doing the paying.

3. Rules are rules
These "million dollar hole in one" promotions are funded by insurance companies which take a premium payment from the event to insure against the possibility of someone actually winning the promotion. So it's up to the insurance company to pay out the promised prize. If the rules aren't followed to the letter, you can bet the insurance company is going to find a way to weasel out of paying.

It would have been a nice gesture if some payment was made, but again, we're talking about insurance companies here, and they don't stay in business by paying claims.

5. Some payment *was* made.
See the OP.

$40K plus "scholarships." As I said in the OP, it was very unclear as to who was doing the actual paying.

7. Only $20k got donated to youth hockey in their names
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2011/09/01/2011-09-01_minnesota_boy_who_made_miracle_hockey_shot_in_twin_brothers_place_wont_get_50000.html

A promotions company said it won't award a $50,000 prize to an 11-year-old Minnesota boy for nailing a once-in-a-lifetime hockey shot during a charity contest because the boy's twin brother was supposed to take the shot.

Instead, the company that insured the event, Odds On Promotions of Reno, Nev., said Wednesday that it would donate $20,000 to youth hockey programs in the boys' names.

The company said the $20,000 donation would go toward two Minnesota youth hockey organizations, including the one the Smith boys play for.

Instead, he and his brother will get three weeks at hockey camp, and the event sponsors donated $20,000 toward youth hockey in Minnesota.

11. Yes, I know there are rules.
It would have just been great if the insurance company had taken the opportunity to do something GOOD for once. Yeah, I know...what planet am I on, right???!!
