Chant of 'tax the rich' growing louder in nation
Chant of 'tax the rich' growing louder in nation
Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer
Thursday, September 1, 2011

Billionaire Warren Buffett may not seem to have much in common with angry laborers at town hall meetings or armies of California nurses protesting in the streets.

But these days, the executive celebrity in his boardroom and working folks on the front lines have found a common mantra as the economy continues to sputter and the 2012 election approaches: "Tax the rich."

They are joining Democratic politicians, such as U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer of California, who pounded the issue of making "millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share" nearly a dozen times at a recent event in Oakland.

The calls have become louder as President Obama plans to unveil his jobs plan next Thursday in a highly anticipated speech that they hope will provide a counterpoint to conservative grassroots GOP groups pressing lawmakers to slash government programs to stimulate the economy - without raising taxes.

snip...
Today, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, and the powerful National Nurses United union will take the message one step further with one of their trademark protests - this time opening a symbolic "soup kitchen."

15. Seems like that idea is unconstitutional - Fourth Amendment
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

The Constitution is the law of this country...It is not to be ignored. The assets of the wealthy cannot be confiscated without proof of illegality, and a trial based on that proof.

Now, that said, I am very much on the side of being sure the rich pay their fair share of taxes, based on their "share" of the wealth. If they hold 75% of the wealth in the country, they should pay 75% of the taxes.

30. The 4th amendment applies to the government NOT to We The People.
If we as a nation want to take our rights back, take back the stolen loot of our nation, take back the confiscated wealth of our commons, return the profits of this country to the rightful owners - We The People, the Constitution does NOT apply. In fact the Declaration of Independence clearly states that citizens have an obligation to overthrow tyrants. Our current oligarchy, the uber wealthy and idle rich, CEOs, hedge fund managers, banksters, Koch brothers and RepubliCONS, along with their political puppets, have become tyrants.

It is our duty to revolt and take back what they have stolen from our nation. Stop the Corporate Machine and Create a New World. Join the Prolonged Occupation of Washington DC starting 6 October.

Kind of like how the Communists were the only group in the United States protesting against South African apartheid in the mid-1970s, long before it became fashionable in liberal circles to be against South African apartheid.

Why is it that Dem Socialists, Communists and other far leftists are always so far ahead of their times?

support us. The vacuum will be filled eventually, but first one must stop filling the void with the false hope sold by politicians that pretend to be our friends.

By their works we will know them, all the others can go fuck themselves.

(nb - my wife and I are in the top 0.1% income group - never mind that we support Democratic candidates and progressive causes; I'm sure we're money grubbing corporatists).

The issue of "give them a choice" is beyond idiotic. I and many other wealthy progressives are happy to pay our fair share - you just need to tax us that way. Which means, you need to get the working and middle class to assert the need for a more progressive tax policy -- not just say they support the concept when a pollster calls.
