Ron Paul's federal disaster relief plan: Kill FEMA
Source: LA Times

... to the 2012 election debate is his suggestion that the United States doesn't really need FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which so often hasn't lived up to its name.

It is, of course, very American to name storms like pets and pretend that a 400-mile-wide swath of 115-mph winds and rains can somehow be managed. Very foolish, but very American. Leave it to Paul to burst the popular bubble of omnipotent government via CNN Tuesday night.

You know, when we had Katrina going into New Orleans, they needed ice. So FEMA ordered ice from the Northeast. They ordered 211 million pounds of ice. It traveled for two weeks and they finally ended up in Nebraska. And they never got it. That's a typical way of how FEMA works.

Cooper said he reported extensively on Katrina and the incompetence of local officials, and that more people would have died without FEMA. "Well," Paul said, "that remains to be seen."

1. Paul's World

"Thank you for calling the new, *Privatized Fema...

Your call is important to us. If you are calling for emergency assistance or to make a claim press 1. If your phones have been disabled due to disaster press 2 ...and realize you will have never heard this message. If you want to check on the status of your claim go fuck yourself."

"1"

"Please hold. There are currently, 8,014 calls ahead of you. Your call is important to us. An agent will be with you between the hours of 7am and 9pm today, or tomorrow, or possibly next week."
HOLDING

"Hello, this is Ingmar, what is your account number?"

Me: "I don't have it, my house was destroyed in the disaster"

"Well I am sorry sir, I need your account information"

Me: "Can you look it up another way?"

"I would have to check with my manager."

Me: "I don't have time, people are dying here!"

"Hmm, interesting. Everything is fine here in the Phillipines. Did you try to reboot?"

3. Ron Paul is a lying sack of
The ice did not end up in Nebraska. It ended up where it was supposed to. FEMA did order too much. They held onto it for a year, in case there were more hurricanes. There weren't at least not on the level of a disaster where the ice was needed. After determining that the ice might after such long storage be unfit for human consumption they melted the excess ice. So, FEMA is dammed if they do dammed if they don't if they hadn't ordered enough everyone would say they are incompetent clowns that can't get it together to help people in need. But, they ordered to much so they are incompetent clowns wasting tax payer money on ice.

Anywho, my guess is Ron Paul wouldn't care a bit if a natural disaster turned out to take more of a toll on human lives than it has too, just because he would rather keep tax cuts for his rich friends.

4. Reminds me of that Sheriff during Katrina
FEMA comes in and cuts all of our emergency communication lines. They cut them without notice. Our sheriff, Harry Lee, goes back in, he reconnects the line. He posts armed guards on our line and says, "No one is getting near these lines." Sheriff Harry Lee said that if America--American government would have responded like Wal-Mart has responded, we wouldn't be in this crisis.
