If you have solar pathway lights, put them outside in the sun during the day and use them to light your house at night.

Some people in our area are doing that, according to the teevee news.

1. Great idea!
I never would have thought about that but we do have them outside and the next time we lose power, and it happens every time there is a storm out here in the boonies, I will remember this and send a kind thought your way,

3. I bought battery powered Christmas candles to sit in my windows one year,
each has a little brass finger-holder base, like the old-fashioned ones. Ever since then, I keep them around in various rooms in the off-season as emergency lights. They look good, and when the power goes out, all I have to do is turn them on. Plus, they use generic Christmas tree/nightlight bulbs.

5. I had solar lights after Hurricane Ike hit Houston.
They work really well.

Some solar lights are brighter then others.

I just bought 3 solar lights that are really bright, could read by the light.

6. You can also use the AA batteries in them...

For other uses, like a small LED flashlight, then the next morning put them back out in the panels to recharge.

If you've ever been in a long power outage and the stores are closed, batteries become a pretty valuable commodity.

7. Thank you, Stinky
I never would have thought of that. We'll be watching the end-of-summer sales for some solar pathway lights. It's pretty much a given the Pacific Northwest gets at least one storm (complete with power outage,) each winter!

8. Excellent idea!!! It prompted me to buy more, and I found
some neat solar lights called "Lid lights".

Basically, they're little solar panels and lights in mason jar lids. You charge them up and put them on a mason jar and there's your light.

I do have the regular pathway solar lights all over the yard but never even thought about bringing them in at night when the power is out.

Seems like the lid lights will be cheaper in the long run than those little fluorescent glow stick things I've been buying. You can only get one use out of them...
