I believe Obama's speech date was an actual coincidence..
and it really is not that big of a deal.

But it does show the lack of respect that the Republicans have for him.

I have criticized the President for numerous things but I do not believe he deserves criticism for this little episode.

In my opinion, both the President and the Republicans wanted the prime-time shot for their political messages and the President chose Wednesday, September 7th, the date of the Republican debate by sheer coincidence.

Folks can decide for themselves who is the adult? In this case, I think it is the President.

1. coincidence or not, Obama caved.
The American people don't see him as an adult, they see him as a loser.

19. That's not how it is being reported. Here is the headline from my hometown newspaper
and lot of others as it is a AP piece:

"Obama bows to Boehner; jobs speech will be Sept. 8"

WASHINGTON— In a retreat after an hours-long test of wills Wednesday, President Barack Obama agreed to deliver an address on jobs and the economy to a joint session of Congress on Sept. 8, yielding to House Speaker John Boehner, who had balked at Obama's request for a Sept. 7 speech.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that it is not embarrassing.

4. You hardly speak for "the American people''.
You see things as you wish to see them.

Most of America disagrees with you.

20. President Obama did NOT cave. He was held hostage again by the GOP terrorists.
It is the GOP House that has to vote to pass the joint session resolution in order for Obama to use the House chambers to give the speech. Without them voting yes Obama can not use the chambers to give the speech.

The blame lies at the feet of The GOP!

that he is a loser. Maybe children do. And of course, trolls. Grow up.

It seems that even Boehner did not realize Repubs were going to debate on that date?

7. I think it was intentional, to call attention to the debate so more Americans will watch.
And why not? It's going to be a sideshow worthy of a drinking game. Everyone needs to see the trainwreck.

However, in my opinion, he should make the speech tonight or early in the morning WITHOUT congress.

10. Catch me up, here -- what was the conflict, anyway?
I though I'd read he'd floated the date and it appeared to be okay.

And so I just took a poll stating he would indeed stand firm! :patriot:

Regardless of what the conflict was, I don't think it would have been intentional. He's the adult, as you say, and he wouldn't play stupid games like that, especially knowing the backlash it would create.

22. This is an MSNBC debate. They should be aware of potential conflicts, whether political, sports, or
other simply so that they can maximize viewership and coverage.

And later came back to whine.

Now the Obama campaign peeps are telling people to watch the GOTP debates... I think we were all had, once again.

I agree. I think it makes the rest of the whine smell cheesy when insignificant details are getting whipped to a froth over a calendar issue.

They needed something to talk about, and this scheduling thing was the big issue of the day.

Honestly, who cares? To the folks who are simply "outraged:" When you wonder why you're being ignored and belittled, it's because you cry wolf on every.single.topic. Pick and choose your battles or you'll end up looking like whining, petty fools!

A shifting of a schedule doesn't actually hurt anyone or anything, so I'm finding it difficult to be upset by.

29. Call me a crazy old lady with the tin foil hat, but is it remotely possible
that not everyone working for the President has his best interests at heart?

We know that Boehner and the Republicans will do everything they can to make the President look bad, but did Mr. Daley and/or Mr. Pfeiffer set him up to look weak; did they coordinate their actions? Okay, okay...tell me I'm wrong, it's no big deal, the speech and what it actually delivers is what's important.

"It all started when White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley called Boehner Wednesday morning to tell him about plans for the jobs speech.

The Speaker did not object, but, Republicans say, he had to look at logistics and did not expect WH Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer to tweet the details an hour later."
