2. Without The House voting 'yes' on the resolution to hold the joint session
then there's no way for Obama to give it in The House Chamber.

Obama is not a dictator and does not have a magic wand.

5. Perhaps he should have thought of that before announcing the time and date?

8. Reports are surfacing that the White House conferred with Boehner before making announcement
White House privately briefed Boehner on speech timing ahead of public request

Multiple reporters—Sam Stein, Sam Youngman, and Glenn Thrush— report that Obama administration officials tell them that John Boehner was privately briefed about the timing of President Obama's jobs speech request and that he voiced no objections until rejecting the request this afternoon.

Boehner's office concedes that it was briefed ahead of time, but denies agreeing to the date. But even if they didn't explicitly agree to the schedule, unless they voiced an objection, they were quite clearly operating in bad faith.

But all that is really beside the point. For what is almost certainly the first time in the history of our nation, the Speaker of the House has rejected a request from the President to speak on a matter of great national urgency. Everything else about this story is noise.

9. Thanks for the link.
I kept reading that, but couldn't find a source, and MSNBC was reporting that there was no coordination beforehand.

How did this happen? Moron staffer? Communication error? Outlook not synching?

12. Of course you don't. Because you are wearing blinders......
Why in the world does he pick that date if he was not going to make a stand for that date?

Please explain the point of picking a date he knew would cause a argument unless he was willing to take on the GOP over it?

23. Why take a stand over a date?
I have to schedule things day to day in my work, and I'll be damned if I'm going to start a big drama over every single date to make sure I "win" and it's on the date that would be most ideal to me.

This is crap.

7. I actually think it's a good thing, strategically...
Because he lets people know he has a jobs plan before the GOP debate begins, then looks like he isn't obstructing them, at the same time it will make the GOP look stupid because everything they say about him on the 7th Obama will eviscerate in his speech on the 8th. People won't care about the GOP after they hear the President is bringing forth a jobs plan.

26. The speech will be BEFORE the game.
Excerpt:

A White House official says "We won't conflict with football," meaning an early time frame for the speech.

13. President Obama did NOT cave. He was held hostage again by the GOP terrorists.
The House has to pass a resolution in order for President Obama to give a speech in The House.
President Obama just can't walk in there when he wants.
Without The House voting yes to the resolution then there could not be a speech.

Put the blame where it belongs ---> on The GOP!

18. Bullshit.
The Obama administration got the okay from Boehner's office for the September 7th date.
Then Boehner changed his mind.
Without The House voting yes on a resolution for the joint session there's no way Obama can just show up and give the speech.

Learn the facts before blaming Obama for something that the GOP did.
