Thank you Illinois.
First Illinois power companies sent a 100 personnel to help get the power back up, and now Governor Quinn is sending a hundred National Guard and helicopters.

Thank you. Blue states are good neighbors.

Quinn sends Illinois National Guard troops to Vermont

By Monique Garcia Tribune reporter

5:50 p.m. CDT, August 31, 2011
About 100 Illinois National Guard troops that were dispatched to New York ahead of Hurricane Irene are being sent to Vermont to help deliver supplies to towns isolated by flooding from the storm.

The troops will use six Blackhawk and two Chinook helicopters along with ground vehicles to deliver food, water and medicine. Soldiers were sent to New York on training mission ahead of the hurricane and were ready to help with disaster response as needed. Gov. Pat Quinn ordered them to Vermont on Wednesday after receiving a request for aid from the state.

“As our friends in Vermont face some of the worst flooding their state has seen in over a century, we want them to know we are here to help,” Quinn said in a statement. “We are thankful to be able to lend a helping hand in this time of need.”

Three regional coordinators from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency are also in New York to help with storm recovery. New York and Vermont will reimburse Illinois for the cost of deploying extra help.

9. Not when you KNOW each spring...
you're likely to have tornadoes. We help and get help in return.

10. Yeah...Oklahoma gets its share of disasters. My mom and dad grew up there
and I was born there (McAlester)...I heard many, many stories about your tornadoes. We get our fair share here in Illinois too. :( I HATE THEM.

12. I'm in Ohio for a year...
and apparently, we can get them here, too. So I'll worry about my husband first, me next. What a life.
I've never actually been to McAlester. I only lived in OK for 7 years.
