Huron County Dog Warden says two men beat dog to death with shovel (OH)

VERMILION, Ohio - Two men are facing animal cruelty charges after they allegedly beat a dog to death with a shovel.

The Huron County Dog Warden said Aaron Friel, 18, of South Amherst, turned himself into Vermilion police on Tuesday for the incident that happened two weeks ago. According to the dog warden, Friel and 19-year-old Kane Ortman, of Collins, beat the yellow lab beagle mix with a shovel.

Our news partners at the Ohio News Network report that the 2-year-old dog named Rocky belonged to a friend of the two men. They then used the shovel to bury the dog’s body in the backyard of Ortman’s house.

Huron County authorities said both men were under the influence of the common decongestant Mucinex, as a narcotic.
