http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nov05election/detail?entry_id=96507Eight days before Texas Gov. Rick Perry participates in his first GOP debate, he's already assembled an fundraising army that is rivaling President Obama's.
The nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity says that Perry has "more than 400 and as high as 1,000" bundlers -- the folks who hit up their Rick friends for campaign contributions after they've reached the federal limit.
President Obama has 271 bundlers who had raised $50,000 or more at the end of June, accounting for about 40 percent of the $86 million that the campaign collected jointly with the Democratic National Committee, according to the Center.
A couple of caveats on this news: First, touting a list of bundlers sounds great. But as a top campaign fundraiser reminds us -- a bundler is only good WHEN they show up with a wad of cash. Obama's list is reality; Perry, who just jumped into the race a month ago, hasn't had to file a campaign finance report yet.
