Rick Perry’s camp defends 1993 HillaryCare praise
The Daily Caller ^ | 08/30/2011 | Alexis Levinson and Caroline May

Posted on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 2:14:19 PM by martosko

Texas Governor Rick Perry has been among the most vocal critics of President Obama’s health care reform initiative, and of Mitt Romney’s preceding health care program in Massachusetts. But in 1993, while serving as Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Perry praised the efforts of then-first lady Hillary Clinton to reform health care, a precursor to Obama’s health care reform efforts.

In a letter to Clinton, who is now U.S. Secretary of State, Perry wrote: “I think your efforts in trying to reform the nation’s health care system are most commendable.”

“I would like to request that the task force give particular consideration to the needs of the nation’s farmers, ranchers, and agriculture workers, and other members of rural communities,” Perry continued, noting his administration’s focus on economic development for rural Texans. “Rural populations have a high proportion of uninsured people, rising health care costs, and often experience lack of services.”

“Again, your efforts are worthy,” Perry concluded, ”and I hope you will remember this constituency as the task force progresses.”

This is the kind of thing that makes me skeptical of Perry. Some of his ideas sound pretty good, but when you go back and look at what he's done and some of his opinions, he starts looking like a RINO. He criticized the Arizona immigration laws. He voted for hate crime laws and he was a Democrat for a long time. It makes me wonder if he's just changed parties to increase his chances of being elected.

Obama campaigned as a moderate. He didn't revert to his liberal ways until after he was in office.

I would take Perry over Romney, but I wouldn't vote for either of them in the primary.

” How are Perry fanatics going to defend this? “

In 1993, health insurance was sky rocketing. Some of us long wished that it would be addressed by our side. Since it wasn’t, it was Hillary who dove off the cliff. That being said, what is wrong with the true and accurate statement Perry made about rural considerations?

So funny how that’s the ONLY thing Palin haters have is the SAME LINE over and over and over and over and they choose to remain ignorant to the FACTS & reasons....with Perry, at least he supplies us w/new ways to dislike him for Pres. EVERY DAY. If this is what conservatives dig up about him, can you imagine what the liberals will dig up if he’s the nominee????? And believe me, they are sitting on the good stuff till the general.

If Palin did not resign the governorship, would you have supported her if she ran for president this year?

I am a Palin supporter, and frankly, putting aside the consideration of the merits of the arguments given justifiying her decision to resign, it just isn’t that big of a deal to me. I don’t think it’s really a big deal to many who are primarily concerned with stands on the issues and ability to execute.

13. If it's a repeat of past election cycles...
The debates will continue until RimJob decides who he's going to vote for, and then anyone who disagrees with his annointed candidate will get the boot.

I still remember the great "purges" back when Bush was running the first time. A huge chunk of the freepers couldn't stand the guy, but once RimJob jumped on the Bush train, everyone else was thrown overboard. "Free" Republic is only free so long as you agree with its owner.

26. Because we have opponents and understanding what they are up to is very important.
Some DUers like to forget or ignore the fact that we have an opposition to the things we are trying to do and that opposition fights very hard.

The Freepers are an excellent source for understanding what the rightmost half of the Republican Party is thinking and doing.

a fight between Spiderman vs. Batman.

Who needs reality?

Only it's a pissing contest where the batshitiest crazy wins. (Advantage: Batman)

27. First of all, Spiderman would kick Batman's ass

He has super strength and "spidey sense" to be able to tell when danger is coming. He also don't need no stinking batarangs since he can sling webs.

Besides, all you really need to do to beat Batman is to talk about his mother and he flips out on you (freaking psycho).

More like an argument about a fight between a bag of rocks and a bag of doorknobs.
