No power for three days at home, my work was under five feet of water,
everything on lower floors destroyed. We are trying to recover. I'll be back in a couple of days.

All I wish for is warm water to take a shower.

3. Sorry to hear that, but happy to hear that you're okay.
We were more fortunate. No problems at home. The power is out at work but the building has a backup diesel generator.

We once went a week without power, but no flood damage. That really sucks, I am sorry.

12. No power for 4 days, but basement didn't flood
20 years ago on LI. We lived on top of a hill, so the water all ran downward. The electricity was major problem. All the food went bad, obviously, and yes, we couldn't take a warm shower. Strange situation. My neighbors got power from another town and had power. Those across the street power came from a different town and we had no power. The local supermarket (our power source) only had dry goods. I bought some food and stored it in neighbor's house. We also, as a last resort, asked if we could take showers over at their house. This is what neighbors and a community does in a crisis. We would have done the same for them.

This, too, was just a "minor" storm. I look at all those flooded areas in NJ, upstate NY, and of all places, VERMONT, and think those poor, poor people.

We have to have compassion, and HELP, our fellow neighbors and citizens. That is what separates us from the Repukes. Good luck to you. I KNOW what you are going through.

BTW, out of 400,000 people without power on LI from Irene, 200,000 still don't have power. My daughter included. MAJOR business areas are included in that no power. which also included traffic lights on a major roadway.

Again, I am thinking of everyone affected by this storm.

14. That is too bad. Cleaning a flooded home is NOT easy. And often
many walls etc. have to be replaced entirely. Hopefully you have insurance.

19. With you in spirit.
After losing a house in New Orleans to Katrina,
we moved to a hill top in Arkansas.
The irony is that Lack of Water was our biggest problem this year.

Wishing you a speedy recovery,
adequate resources,
and helpful friends/neighbors.

The helpful friends/neighbors were most important in New Orleans.
With the power off, and no television or refrigerators,
sitting with them in the quiet, after dark, by fire/candle light and sharing whatever food we had
was a Spiritual Experience.
I hadn't realized how insulated & isolated we, as a culture, have become.
Now I know.

Another irony,
now that we live on this hilltop in The Woods,
we ARE isolated.

Peace,
Bob

20. Power back up last night, took shower when I got home, first in four days
The dealership was nearly totaled. Water as high as 5 feet swept through from front to back for three days, wiping out EVERYTHING. Have spent three straight days tearing out all of the computers and printers and faxes phones and stuff for a 76 employee small business, stripping old hard drives before disposal for file and document retrieval. Bought new computers and as of two hours ago, had all departments back up and running. Tomorrow we will re-open with folding tables and metal chairs until the furniture comes.

And I am bone tired.

We survived.

Night.
