Sign a petition to Schumer and Reid about reforming filibuster rules in Senate.
http://www.credoaction.com/campaign/strong_filibuster_reform/index2.html

The proposed rule change will not change the requirement of 60 votes to move
along a bill to final vote, but will allow the requirement to only effect the
final vote of the bill not any of the votes along the way. As many DUers have
been asking for, Senators interested in stopping the vote would have to stand and
talk rather than simply tell the leader they don't like it and won't vote to close
debate. The rule changes would also disallow the blind holding up of bills without
even disclosing who is doing the holding.

Every name on the petition helps and allows those who don't have a lot of time to
get in the game of influencing our government.

Thanks.

2. Any reform to the filibuster is good but aren't better proposals being
considered?

Like the one that lowers the total number required over time.

4. For the next two years.....

The Republicans control the house. Not having the Senate filibuster will do little good while they control the house.

In two years, The Pubs might have not only the House but the Senate. If we don't have the filibuster then, it will be a disaster.

What am I missing?

5. The requirement for 60 votes in the senate to pass anything will remain.
The new rules would simply make those in the minority to stand and debate for a given time period (2 or 3 days) before the vote would be taken. This effort is to give the public a chance to see who the opponents are and what they have to say. Democrats, with more than 40 opponents to any Republican measure, could still vote to stop the measure from a simple majority (More than half) vote. Of course, the republicans in this congress will still be able to stop the vote as they have more than 40 votes, but before they could make that vote they would have to stand and show their faces.

In addition, presently any senator can stop consideration of certain types of votes (for example, confirmation of Obama's judge appointments). These would be stopped (I believe) or at least the senator stopping the vote would have to come forward and be seen and heard.

There are several different versions being considered. This petition is simply letting the Democratic leaders know we support the rules changes so congress will stop looking like they are simply looking the other way on so many issues facing our nation.
