This is a prime example why right wingers are right now and always have been full of shit
Edited on Fri Aug-26-11 11:32 PM by MrScorpio

First off: That is not Obama at 22. That's Obama when he was 18 and enrolled in Occidental College.

Image Google "Obama" and "Occidental College" and you'll get, right up front, a picture of the future President of these United States showing us all that he's the coolest motherfucker to sport a brim:

By the time Obama was 22 he had graduated from Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialty in international relations and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1983. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

Perry, who was born to a rancher/politician daddy a good 11 years prior to Obama, to his credit, was enrolled in Texas A&M Univ, majoring in Animal Sciences during his college years. Perry: "'I was probably a bit of a free spirit, not particularly structured real well for life outside of a military regime, I would have not lasted at Texas Tech or the University of Texas. I would have hit the fraternity scene and lasted about one semester.'] Perry was a prankster in college: he once placed live chickens in the closet of an upperclassman during Christmas break and used M-80 firecrackers to prank students using the toilet." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Perry

Perry graduated with a GPA of 2.22: http://www.ufppc.org/us-a-world-news-mainmenu-35/10496-news-rick-perry-college-gpa-222-says-human-caused-global-warming-is-unproven.html

Now Perry entered his first political office in 1984, this is important to remember, he was 33 at the time. Before that, he had left the Air Force with the rank of captain (captain is an automatic promotion in the Air Force, all you have to do is come to duty and breathe… More than likely, he was passed over for major. When that happens, your career is over), returned to Texas, and went into business farming cotton with his father (Which is the ONLY job that he's ever held where he didn't draw a gubmint check).

By the time Obama was 33, he hadn't even started his political career yet. Because he was busy doing other stuff:
Two years after graduating, Obama was hired in Chicago as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland (Roseland, West Pullman and Riverdale) on Chicago's far South Side. He worked there as a community organizer from June 1985 to May 1988.During his three years as the DCP's director, its staff grew from one to thirteen. He helped set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization in Altgeld Gardens. Obama also worked as a consultant and instructor for the Gamaliel Foundation, a community organizing institute. In mid-1988, he traveled for the first time in Europe for three weeks and then for five weeks in Kenya, where he met many of his paternal relatives for the first time. He returned in August 2006 for a visit to his father's birthplace, a village near Kisumu in rural western Kenya.

In late 1988, Obama entered Harvard Law School. He was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review at the end of his first year, and president of the journal in his second year. During his summers, he returned to Chicago, where he worked as a summer associate at the law firms of Sidley Austin in 1989 and Hopkins & Sutter in 1990.] After graduating with a J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991, he returned to Chicago.] Obama's election as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review gained national media attention and led to a publishing contract and advance for a book about race relations, which evolved into a personal memoir. The manuscript was published in mid-1995 as Dreams from My Father.

By January 19, 1999, Perry was elected to the office of Lieutenant Governor of Podunkistan, where he remained until the following year when he assumed the governorship when Junior stole the White House. With his utter lack of upward mobility, he's been in the same place for THE LAST ELEVEN YEARS.

Obama by the year 1997, was elected to the Illinois State Senate, in 2004 he was elected to the US Senate and by 2008 elected as President of the United States.

When I last checked, Perry was still Governor of Podunkistan…. Even with an eleven year head start.

So sure, Perry started with all the benefits of family clout, coasted through life, took the military route and stood still like the kind of rocks that fill his magnificently coiffed head, while Obama came from a very meager background, worked his brains HARD and aimed for the stars, where he's at the top of the food chain today.

So, it just goes to show you: it's not where you're from, it's where you're at.

1. Obama went to Columbia COLLEGE at Columbia University...
It's a little hard to explain this, because Columbia College, the School of International Affairs, the Columbia School of General Studies, and some others, are part of one system, which goes by Columbia University.

But Obama went to Columbia College, the most respected, most elite school of the bunch. It's Ivy League. Obama earned his bachelor's degree at a much more challenging and prestigious institution than party-school Texas A&M.

3. Texas A&M is a party school?
Ooookkay.

Texas A&M does quite well in rankings, especially in areas such as the one Perry studied. I'm not saying it's a Columbia University, but if you want to major in Animal Ag it's an excellent choice. There's nothing wrong with his choice of schools, but his GPA leaves a lot to be desired.

6. I lived there for two years, my friend.
Texas is Podunkistan. It's not the only Podunkistan we have in this country... We have a lot of Podunkistans here, even in my own state of Michigan. Try visiting upstate here sometime. Besides, I was referring mostly about the state of politics there anyway.

Which, in Texas, is nothing if not downright podunkstanian.

28. Might not be precise, but . . .

there's definitely too much podunk in a state that had multi-terms of Dubya followed by multi-terms Perry as Governor. Especially since Texans voted out Anne Richards and kept those clowns. Given that both did bee-lines for the White House afterward, it's some pretty pernicious and contagious podunk, too.

We should maybe consider giving Texas independence before it's too late, or perhaps, offer it back to Mexico. Perry made his secession sentiments plain, so let's grant independence and make him ineligible for the Presidency.

I'm sorry. Texas is giving itself an awful reputation.

10. For the record
That photo of Perry is the standard graduation from pilot training glam shot. He flew C-130s for three years, honorable necessary job, but as the fighter jocks used to say "bus driver". Apparently did all right as he got the railroad tracks, but as long as we're making snide insinuations, if military service makes the man, why didn't he stay in? Further, given his college record, I'm betting he clocked in a lot of hours at the O-Club.

OK Gov. You brought it up; release your service records. I'd like to take a look at your report cards and 214. Put up or shut up.

You're right. Like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama wasn't on third base; he started out as a bat boy and made it to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

I wasn't aware that transport pilots trained on the t-38. So do C-130,C5s and etc. go directly from training on a t-38 to multi-engine transport planes? That doesn't seem right to me. BTW - can't find any pictures of this guy with a 130. Guess they want to go with the fighter pilot jockey meme.

18. I believe the training always included jets because I don't think
they were assigned specific aircraft until they completed UPT. There was follow up training after what amounted to basic. Projecting manning needs a year out, not a good idea.

Yeah, doing the Steve Canyon thang.

No I'm not bad mouthing the "C's". As noted honorable, necessary and at times damn frightful, especially if the old girl was turned into a gun platform.

21. GPAs
I've been amazed at how my undergraduate GPA followed me around from the late sixties in the teaching profession twenty years later. This despite subsequent "excellent" classroom evaluations and graduate school grades. My second time in grad school (for a second degree), I realized a great deal of grade inflation was going on, after my original experience twenty-some years before. My undergraduate GPA was around 3.2, not at all a detriment to being hired back then. Years later nearly everyone considered worth hiring was pushing a 4.0. This was a surprisingly easy 4.0 compared to years before. George W. Bush's college grades were available on the internet very early on, then disappeared. They were not great. That Rick Perry, however, turned out to have a 2.2 was a revelation. This man is a front-running candidate for President of the U. S., but wouldn't ever be good enough to be hired as a teacher, at least in the state of Pennsylvania (Texas, maybe).

22. Oh for the love of Mike! Those shots of Obama are an intentional
photo session. I saw a ton of photos from that session way back in 08. The shots look like hundreds of other rolls I've seen from similar sessions. The photography is black and white and in the style of a 'commercial photo shoot' of the day, that is they look like photos shot for actors to use in pursuit of commercial work. They look like, and I might have been told this when I first saw the proofs I can not recall, that the photographer was a young woman building her book, that is she asked him to sit for pictures which she could then use as example work. Photographers looking to earn shooting actors and models need to have a 'book' of work with examples of good shots of diverse people, clients will want to see photos of people like themselves in gender and in age and in race and even in 'type' (you shoot gorgeous people well, but what about snooks like me?) and the photographer seeks experience with personalities and faces and delivering good work in a short time. Every photographer I know in LA has done such sessions. Dozens of people I know there have done such sessions for photographers.
The photographer would have added the hat, the cig, etc. For what they are, they are pretty good, the photographer's work is nice and easy, and the subject has his moments as well, and of course the subject has a 'certain something' many others noticed later on. A good eye, that photographer, to pick a future President out at college.
My two cents. Nice photos. Made with intention. They are not portraits, but head shots. That is, they are not intended to capture the person being photographed, but more so to display the things that can be done with that look. Not out to record 'Barack on this day' but out to suggest a range of moods and looks he would carry well. It is insane to look at such photos as a record of the actual person being photographed.

Because they understand that no amount of facts and evidence will ever have the power of images like those. And for the most part, our side doesn't.

Sadly, too many on the left (and even the center-right) persist in the delusion that if you patiently explain the facts, the electorate will graciously see the error of their ways.

Hello Jim Rick Perry,

Please do explain,

You employed a firecracker for a joke, on multiple occasions?

How certain are you of what injuries there had been, including anyone who had copied you later?

This can be very cruel, hazardous, torture.

& you oppose reliable national healthcare, subsidized housing, & other disability access civil rights? That is cruel & torture, including toward your possible previous victims.

I do, also, oppose tobacco; that comment is for each of Jim & Barry.

Dear Jim Rick Perry,

I had neglected to ask «How often have you been asked about Matt Shepard & Jim Byrd, especially compared with what you've said about Ben Bernanke?»

You are a governor who has stated a terrorist threat, & if you had intended that as humor, then you should clarify that.

When shall you send yourself to Guantánamo Bay Naval Base prison detention camp?

It might not be such a drag to drag you.

27. While we are checking voter IDs in states, maybe the real qualifier for voting should be
"Did you decide to vote for your candidate based on an inane and misleading poster, or did you study the issues and the candidates' responses?"

Okay, not really.

I'm just saying that while RWers are pushing their stupid voter ID laws to suppress the vote, we should counter by asking them if they are informed enough to vote.
