98 Michigan schools cited for low achievement

Dozens of Michigan schools identified this morning as persistently low-achieving now have 90 days to submit a plan for turning around their schools to help them avoid being placed in a state reform school district.

The Michigan Department of Education today released this year’s list of 98 persistently low-achieving schools. The schools were Identified because of low math and reading test scores, lack of academic improvement, failure to meet federal academic goals and low graduation rates.

This is the second year the state has produced such a list. It is required under state and federal law.

The MDE also released a top-to-bottom ranking of every school in the state.
