Man notifies Conn. police that he parked illegally in handicapped space, gets arrested
By Associated Press, Updated: Friday, August 26, 8:58 AM

SHELTON, Conn. — A Connecticut man was so upset about the lack of parking enforcement in his town that he parked his car illegally in a handicapped space and called police over a dozen times. When they showed up, they subdued him with a stun gun and arrested him.

Shelton police say they had to use the stun gun on Michael Andes Thursday morning after he became combative and screamed at officers that they weren’t doing their job. He was charged with breach of peace, interfering with an officer and was given a parking ticket.

Authorities say Andes first called police at 2 a.m. and yelled at a dispatcher.

Andes posted $1,000 bail and is due in court Sept. 6. There’s no phone listing for Andes. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.

3. Guess they showed him who's "doing their job"
Way too many Barneys, not nearly enough Andys.

5. A good cop doesn't need to taze a "goober" n/t

7. Yeah, actually they are.
In a very basic way, most are either one or the other.

8. As a disabled person
Police need to keep the non disabled and lazy people out of the handicapped slots. In fact, we need more handicapped parking now that the boomers are aging. I get upset when all the handicapped slots are taken and we have to park a long way away like at Costco. Walking is good for you so, if you are able to walk, keep the closest slots available for the overflow of disabled who need to park closer. You never know when it ma be your turn to be handicapped.

I used to take care of my mother who was in a wheelchair and we needed the extra space to put her wheel chair in for her to get out of the car. I'm not in a wheelchair but I do not walk well or far, especially on an up grade like most parking here is.

9. But not every handicap is visible.
My mother has a permit due to heart issues and other health issues. She uses oxygen at times, but not always, and if she's making a quick trip into a store, bank, or whatever, doesn't take her portable tank if she's only going to be 5 or 10 minutes. She's had people give her funny looks because it isn't readily apparent that she needs a handicapped spot. Not all disabled people are in wheelchairs.

10. My husband has muscular dystrophy and cannot walk very far.
At first glance it can be hard to tell he is disabled, so we/he gets a lot of dirty looks when he parks in a handicap stall. He does have a permit!
