1. IN them?? Or ON them? Because I don't know of a mechanism whereby

Salmonella bacteria could get inside an intact papaya.

Those giant Mexican papayas suck anyway, too often overripe and not enough flavor. Give me one of the little ones (from Hawaii??) any day of the week.

2. I prefer the Mexican Papaya... IN MEXICO

the problem is that they ship them too green....

And I could almost tell you why by the way... it has to do with water used to water them... This is why I always wash them before I cut into one if I happen to buy one.

3. Salmonella doesn't get into produce via the root system from watering.

It contaminates the surface.

If bad bacteria could come in via the roots we'd all be dead of E coli and Salmonella and Campylobacter by now.
