Bloomberg announced mandatory evacuations for
folks in low lying areas. The Transit Authority could be shut down.
Says he's preparing for the worst and preparing evacuation boats.

What about all those construction cranes asks Chris Hayes?

3. In some areas yes, it will intensify the wind
due to wind tunnel effect.

11. Actually, freedom from drag from ground interference increases it too
But I can imagine the turbulence and downdrafts in the concrete canyons of the metro areas is going to be impressive.

14. Yep, but they are hopefully designed for that
since they do get them northeasters with very high winds... so hopefully they OVER ENGINEERED them buildings, and will survive fine with this.

21. Ya, the buildings are surely overdesigned, let's hope for
minimum flying debris and window blow-outs.

1. I am watching keith
but I am not surprised....

The flood maps are quite clear as to what happens.

In NYC the problem will not be wind... as bad as it will be... it is the storm surge.

As to the Transit Authority... pumps, not more needed to be said...

And cranes I will answer Hayes, they CAN BE TIED DOWN... not easy, you need to know what you are doing, and if you do it wrong, oops but it can be done.

12. Boats?
Well, emergency boats are fine, but I hope he's got busses running NOW and places to take folks to. Houston had to act quick when New Orleans needed shelter (which we did), but getting folks on the highway to us and out of the flooding was tough.

13. Yeah but due to the surge they may need to bring in boats
for the recovery phase.

15. Sure, that's what I meant about "emergency" - but I'd focus on getting folks out NOW
or at least getting ready for tomorrow. Places in Pennsylvania for shelter, busses to take them there. He'll need the boats for sure - I just hope that's not his sole plan.

17. Well I hope he did not take lessons from
Katrina... to be honest... or rather he took the lessons and starts moving busses out oh in the next few hours. It takes a little while.

But evacuating the city is not going to be easy.

22. Tree specialists being sent from Northern MI to Connecticut
I imagine others are being sent to other places on the East Coast. Apparently FEMA is being pro-active.

Know this because my tree service i(Mel and son) s making its way from just below the Straits to Connecticut and now unavailable to us, if we need them.

They have been sent to NY before and then not needed in years past.

He is a good guy - send him back to us safe and sound. That biz can be very dangerous.
