1. It's a big scary deal to those who experienced it, and others
are concerned. You really have nothing better to do than make fun of people and COUNT THREADS?

2. I made that number part up. Best comment yet...
from a guy in LA -- "we use 5.3 quakes to stir our coffee in the morning"

Everybody is wishing for disaster porn, that's all this is.

6. There HAVE been some clever posts, and I don't think for
a minute people would be joking if there had been injuries or serious damage.

10. Well no, of course not...real disasters are very real.
Like a lot of people here almost begging/steering, hurricanes to hit the U.S., just so they have something to talk about.

I see it here all the time come hurricane season.

9. If you do not get why a 5.9
is more serious in the East Coast than in the West coast, I cannot help you, but you are not being funny.

14. IF there was any strucutural damage that will do more damage
and I live in the WEST COAST, where 7.0 make us nervous... while the same is what they stir their coffee in Mexico City.

You make all the fun you want... but the OP is insensitive.

If a dish wasn't even cracked I'm going to go out on a limb and say buildings will remain structurally sound.

there was damage... laugh it up...

Start with the National Cathedral...

And a few DU'ers have reported buildings off foundations.

Oh and add, Mineral VA, the epicenter, seems physical damage is quite extensive.

7. This is concerning for those of us on the East coast
because our buildings are not built to handle earthquakes. A 6.0 is nothing in CA because the building codes are designed to handle much stronger quakes.

Those are the reddest states that are underwater, however. That's what makes it funny.

26. Do you believe that the infrastructure of the USA is in tip top shape?
A bridge collapsed in my town, killing our people due to willful neglect. There are budget cuts and layoffs and deregulations. Do you not think that the infrastructure of the east coast could be compromised as a result of this? But by all means, mock away since it didn't happen to you.

30. a crack in the wall might be cosmetic
or indicate more serious, as in structural, damage.

But go ahead laugh it up... I till remember one hospital that had a crack in the wall after a seven pointer, none took it too seriously... same damn attitude...

Nope a 5.9 will probably not cause that damage, but it was the same attitude after a smaller earthquake that led to UNSEEN damage.

But laugh it up...

I really hate this atitude, and so far damage is going to about 100 million... but chuckle.
