Lagerfield believes in kids for women but not men, and no ugly daughters
:wtf:

Karl Lagerfeld: It's hard to have ugly kids

In the new issue of Interview Magazine, designer Karl Lagerfeld chats it up with former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. The fashion big shots commiserate about wealth ("You're in your jet—you don't have a grip on reality. We can lose touch with reality quite easily.”), and being oppressed by jobs.

And then there are Lagerfeld's views on kids.

Regarding Roitfeld's children, Julia and Vladimir, Karl comments: "You're also lucky because they are very beautiful. It would have been difficult to have an ugly daughter.”

Luckily, the former Chanel guru was spared the horrors of raising an unattractive daughter, as he is childless.

“If I were a woman, I would love to have lots of kids,” Lagerfeld opines. “But for men, I don't believe in it."

2. At least he's aware that he might be out of touch with reality
I wonder if he suspects how shallow he is?

4. nobody on earth wants an ugly daughter, he's just being honest about his feelings
i was born w. a deformity, and there is no one who loves or cares about an ugly child, not even the parents can have the feelings for an ugly daughter they would have for a healthy, pretty one -- don't waste your breath lying to me and pretending that people are other than what they are, i prefer the honest man to the liar who thinks it is somehow kind to deny the reality of what my life is

that is just biology, in a state of nature, animals kill the ugly and deformed young

and our human society is so little civilized that, truly, it would have been better for me if i had never been born, as far as my first decades of existence, because people are truly cruel and hateful

no one would wish to be an ugly young woman nor would anyone wish to raise an ugly young woman, that's just fact

as far as he thinks he would like to have lots of kids if he was a woman, that's just a gay man's fantasy of what women want and i wouldn't waste much time worrying about it, he is not suddenly going to become a woman and start popping out "lots of kids" so nobody is going to be affected by his sexist views

artists, and this includes designers, are frequently pigs, if you're surprised by that this time of century i don't know what to tell you...it takes an ego and a thick hide to think you can be paid to create in a world of 7 billion people

8. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree.
We may be mammals, but the human in us tells us beauty comes from the inside, and those differences / deformities / unusual features make most parents more protective and loving of these children. We're not animals who kill deformed offspring because they don't believe they'll survive. It's really only the truly ugly human who devalues others based on whether they live up to his or her idea of beauty. I know it happens, but it sickens me.

14. I'm certainly not going to try to argue with you about your own experience
... for which I am deeply sorry. Whether your parents tried their best at parenthood or didn't, your childhood was obviously incredibly painful, and I am so, so, so sorry.

I'm absolutely certain that you're right about a lot of people being cruel and hateful. However, as another poster noted, a child's difficulties can also bring out an extra caring and compassionate side in a parent, and in others too. I just wish you'd run into more of those people when you were growing up.

I'm so sorry for what you went through. I wish I could go back in time and give you one of these  every single day.

11. That's a remarkable thing for such an ugly man to say....but, frankly, I've
known a number of men who were quite homely and downright ugly who did not think of themselves that way, but were quick to denigrate and laugh at women who were a whole lot less ugly than they were. Pretty sad.
