I'm going to note that this is at least third hand and the Egyptian who purportedly told the story could not have witnessed it, so where did the details come from if the crime was hushed up?

1. I don't find that story surprising--that regime is riddled with crazy fuckups.

People always talk. Someone had to collect the bodies and make up lies as to how they met their end. Some servant had to mop up the blood.

Sometimes, crazy regime members boast about these kinds of things...as a warning to others.

Hard to know if it's actual or "representative" of typical behavior, but it's not surprising.
