The Coming Dim Ages
http://www.opednews.com/articles/The-Coming-Dim-Ages-by-Stephen-Pizzo-110820-964.html

Unfortunately it's only the individual trees that get any media attention, even as the forest gobbles more of the globe each day. Without recognizing the forest, the individual trees seem unattached to the spreading forest.

:snip:

Let me try to explain by listing some of those "trees:"

United States of America: After nearly seventy-years of unparalleled fiscal growth and domination, Americans looked down and, like cartoon character Wiley Coyote, discoveriing we'd run right off a cliff. There was nothing under us but air - hot air. Add to that a poisonous political climate that's left us with few if any intelligent, mature and courageous leaders, and, Houston, we have a problem. So far widespread civil unrest has not hit the US. So far.

:snip:

Mass Media: The scandal unfolding in the UK and US over widespread criminality within media baron, Rupert Murdoch's media empire has only sharpened the growing distrust and disdain for media. Once the independent voice of the common man, the corporatization of mass media has incrementally turned media into the voice the disease itself.

1. The term 'Neo-Feudal' is trending upward
Noam Chomsky, Chris Hedges, among others have named it in their writings.

2. That's how I see it
Nobles and Serfs, in the technological age.

The serfs were bound to the land, but they won't bother with that because if you have no money you have no mobility.

They even talk about the "Elite Bloodlines."

It's all just barely under the surface, with a thin packaging of "Made in America" on it.

3. every time I hear about *legacy* politicians my gorge rises
THAT was a real warning bell to my folks. Whether the name be Clinton -or- Bush, Americans need to soundly reject these candidates who think they are owed a position.

5. Yep, that's the plan...

Bury people in debt and you effectively turn them into indentured servants. Inflate core commodity prices so high that you price them right out of their life style and into the Banana Republic. If they miss a payment on their credit card, presto! The won't be able to get a good job because of bad credit. Hell, they won't be able to do anything except rent a cheap apartment (in a made-over craptastic McMansion) and live at the mercy of the Land Lord.

Ah, back to the days of Lords. That's just ducky. :puke:

It's going to leave millions of people in a very bad spot. :(

6. Prison labor
Miss a payment on your CC and you go to debtor prison and work for $.25 an hour...if you're lucky.

If you thought the deck is stacked now, it will be impenetrable soon enough.

7. Finished the article
And if anything, it's WORSE than how he painted it. He didn't mention the religious and anti-science influences that are the true harbingers of a dark age.

A Dark Age is when nobody knows anything that isn't spoonfed to them. Religions written in books they can't read, laws that are pronounced in places they aren't allowed, advances in science that are buried as soon as they come out.

Nobody knows things could be better, so they can't fight it. It's little wonder that they last for centuries, while progress counts itself in mere years.

10. It really did capture the possibilities of the time
And how fear and avarice were keeping those possibilities locked up.

The same noxious mix is here today.
