http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/new-congressional-districts-set-up-2012-races-advantage-republicans/Content?oid=263485813—Brad Miller, D-Raleigh
Miller has been booted from his district and into the 4th. Both he and Price may be waiting on the DOJ to make its move, after which Miller, whose voting precinct was split in order to double-bunk him with Price, may make it back to the 13th.
Meanwhile, the GOP can count on a strong candidate with some kind of tie to Jesse Helms to emerge from the primary.
George Holding, a former Helms aide, recently stepped down from his post as U.S. district attorney to announce a run for Congress. As DA he took down John Edwards and Mike Easley, credentials that should make him a magnet for campaign cash.Holding joins Paul Coble as the other top-tier candidate running in the 13th. Coble, a former Raleigh mayor and Wake County commissioner, is Helms' nephew.
end of quote bolding mine
Edwards is being prosecuted for something candidates have never been prosecuted for before. He got money from two different people (one dead and one who is about 100 years old) to hide his mistress and child from public view or to take care of them. If it is the first, and the prosecution can prove that both the giver and the receiver agreed on that motive, then they are illegal campaign contributions. If it is the second, then they are legal gifts. In other words, the prosecution has to prove that both the dead person and Edwards or the nearly 100 year old woman and Edwards, conspired to keep the mistress and child from view and didn't just want to see them provided for. And, the person most responsible for the prosecution going forward just happens to be running in a district drawn for him by the state legislature. Really, nothing political here, not at all.
Edwards is a louse and a lousy husband, but this case stinks to high heaven.
