There's a Turd Floating in Ayn Rand's Swimming Pool.............
Reportedly the Repuke mixed nuts in Congress (and the Teabaggers)worship at the feet of Ayn Rand. Hmmm...there is something that confuses me about this.

Rand's heroes are the brilliant and gifted. She proposes that they should own the earth and the lesser beings should fade away or die and get out of the way, etc. That brings me to the mixed nuts.

Do they think they are the "brilliant and gifted" of this world?? Jesushchrist--people like Walsh can't take care of this own kids or keep a roof over his own head. Boehner's skill is lifting glass to mouth while not falling off of bar stool. Cantor's talent is picking glasses (a la Palin)to make him look "smart" while hiding the confusion floating in his eyes. They all have a pre-school understanding of government budgeting and deficit. A bunch of them are medical doctors who apparently had to go into another profession (wonder how many patients they inadvertently killed or neglected?). Think of the in-depth brilliance of King of Iowa, or Virginia Fox, or Bachmann. Then there are those who keep hookers on their speed dial, etc.

These are not the best and brightest of the country. They are the flotsam of the country. If there was an Ayn Rand Island, they would have been voted off before they got to the shore!!!! If we had an Ayn Rand world, they would be the first candidates for extinction as "dumb" and "useless". Somebody really needs to point out to them that they are not Ayn Rand material....dillusional, dangerous clowns that they are.

2. and they can't recognize intelligence in others
Dunning-Kruger effect I think.

You're right the joke really is on us though. Stupid they can be, and stupid they are: But they are, in effect...for now...running the show.

'Idiocracy' is a documentary, not a comedy.

Bingo----I kept asking myself if a person is really, really stupid are they too stupid to know they are stupid? The repukes have left no doubt about that answer.

6. They never seem to understand
The age of the randian superhero - the genius inventor, engineer, businessman who understands every single point of his business and without whom the business would collapse - hasn't existed for nearly 100 years, if it ever really existed at all.

If Steve Jobs left Apple to live on a desert island Apple wouldn't cease to function as a company. Did Microsoft cease to exist without Bill Gates?

What do these people believe would happen if the average "Galt" shut down their (clearly super-profitable) business and left to live in the woods? Would everyone cry out in disbelief and loss or would someone simply realise that there's a profitable gap that's been left in the market by a lunatic and set up their own business in place?.

The free market ideals that they worship so much suggest that there will almost always be a competitor for business in a successful market, if there's a profit to be made, someone will make it. Yet the Randian worshippers believe that without them the whole world will stop.

The real irony is, most of the people who could be described as potential "Galts" - people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet - they're all pretty liberal.

8. Your accurate criticisms of those Republicans were good evidence
that our political system seems to favor the unqualified while rewarding misfits. How is that happening?

9. If you have read Rand, you know that she had distaste for politician
that went very deep. (Hell, she had distaste for just about everyone.) It just goes to show that few of our "ruling class" can find their ass with both hands. They will quote a line here and there and call themselves intelligent.

12. "Thinkers" long-dead are unlikely to solve our problems
...as they are not aware of them. And creatively applying some tired old ideology to current (and rather unique) conditions is also unlikely to magically fix anything.

I'm very much in favor of sticking with the living for ideas.

13. Here is another turd in Ayn Rand's Swimming Pool...serial murderers.
It seems Ayn Rand herself admitted to modeling her heroes in her books after William Hickman, a well known serial murderer. She admired the killer for his ability to be unconcerned about other people and to do whatever he felt like doing.

Hickman was so unconcerned about other people, that after brutally murdering and dismembering a 12 year old girl, he went to meet the father of the child to obtain the ransom. He sewed the dead girl's eyelids open to make it look as if the child were alive, and he set her up in the car like a doll. After collecting the ransom from the father, he got in the car to drive away. As he rolled off, he pushed the body out. The head rolled out at the feet of her father.

This is what we all must become in order to worship at the feet of Ayn Rand.
