Rick Perry: The Dollar Store Version of George Bush

August 13, 2011 By: Juanita Jean Category: Uncategorized

Well, he announced. And he’s got a website.

My personal favorite quote: “And I will work every day to make Washington, D.C. as inconsequential in your lives as I can.” Well, I guess we know what that means for Social Security and Medicare, don’t we?

Intelligence has the same effect on Rick Perry as daylight does on Dracula.

18. I miss the wit and the insight she had into people.
<..> In fact, we know how she would have felt, because she was as prescient about this election before her death two years ago as she was about all the other tragedies of the Bush years. Carlton Carl, CEO/publisher at Molly's beloved Texas Observer, recalls her saying after Obama's 2004 speech at the Democratic convention, "You know ... that young man could be president someday."

Before Barack Obama announced his candidacy, Chicago Magazine asked a number of luminaries if they thought he should run. Opinions varied. Molly was succinct and direct, and with her usual wit and certainty said: "Yes, he should run. He's the only Democrat with any Elvis to him."

55. Molly Ivins & Barbara Jordan

“Next time I tell you someone from Texas should not be president of the United States … please pay attention.”
~ Molly Ivins

My faith in the Constitution is whole, it is complete, it is total. I am not going to sit here and be an idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction of the Constitution.

She never would have run but she was a lawyer and think what she could do from the Supremes.

What ever discussion or interview I heard her in she always came to back home to equality, and justice. Everything she said grew out of the basics that this country was founded for.

52. Yes, of course -- I'll share my favorite
bit of logic from Molly. Well, maybe two.

Perfect logic (and not much humor, though the column surely had it, I don't recall): the one sure-fire way to eliminate the problem of illegal immigrants is to ENFORCE the laws for corporations who hire them. That's all you need to do.

I remember reading her book, "Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She?" which was filled with stories about the Texas lege, as she called it, and the lege-eslators (to coin a term). It was unbelievable, but because I lived in a southern state with a lege all too much like hers, I found myself at once depressed and comforted. DEPRESSED that there was another state like Molly's and COMFORTED that there was another state like Molly's and I wasn't alone in my daily head-shaking.

She was an American original, every bit heir to the legacy of a Mark Twain or a Will Rogers in my book.

57. One of my favorite Molly Ivins quotes about Bill Clinton, is even more applicable to Obama
"If left to my own devices, I'd spend all my time pointing out that he's weaker than bus-station chili. But the man is so constantly subjected to such hideous and unfair abuse that I wind up standing up for him on the general principle that some fairness should be applied. Besides, no one but a fool or a Republican ever took him for a liberal."

So true. I spend most of my time around conservative friends defending obama, and most of my time around liberal friends complaining about him.
