Topix: Did last night's debate provide a candidate you would choose over Obama?
This is a poll on Topix.com that I ran across just now asking the question "Did last night's debate provide a candidate you would choose over Obama?", posted following the GOP debate the other night.

I'm not all that familiar with Topix but from what I do know it's essentially a giant message board accessible by people from all walks. So, the results of this poll so far are really quite frightening, though the representative samplic is rather small as a percentage of the population. Here is a snapshot of the results so far:

So, is it merely that this is a predominantly right-wing website? And, if not, where are all of the President's base of supporters?

Can this sample actually represent the mindset of the larger nation? If so, we are truly living in ominous and dangerous times.

I long for the national euphoria felt in Nov 2009. That euphoria seems to have diminished of late.

1. Topix is overwhelmingly right wing. You can see it if you read
the comments on almost any story.

3. Yes, I see a lot of that. But I don't see why there is little liberal participation
on a site that seems to be available to all. Or is this site known for suppressing liberal points-of-view?

As I said, not any more familiar with it than being aware of it's name.

4. Topix is toxic. Any attempt to post anything that's not teabagger
material gets shouted down in a very vulgar way. There's no point in even trying.

6. But doesn't that relegate us to preaching to the choir? If we're not in
these places to counter their BS, then the chance to move anyone at all is lost.

8. I don't know. You're certainly free to post on Topix.
However, if the bulk of Topix readers are teabaggers, I doubt you'll have much of an effect. Try Facebook, Twitter, etc. You're more likely to reach people who might listen. Topix is lost, and has been for a very long time.

2. Not to belabor the obvious, but
the question presumes that you actually watched the debate. That rules out most Democrats. I'm not sure there's anything to be learned from a poll of GOP political junkies and/or masochists.

5. My point is that support for the President seems to be absent when
there seems to certainly be an opportunity here for liberal participation.

10. I agree. There is little to be gained from
the torture of listening to them tear down the president and not one of them have a clue of what to do about the country, let alone the world. They don't know many locations of countries in the world and almost nothing about them. Like *, I don't think they can tell you the name of a single leader in another country.

7. Um, no.
I'd vote for a ham sandwich before I vote for any of those fucking lunatics. And I'm a vegan.

11. The one I would choose over Obama is Fred Karger.
However, since he has no chance of getting the nomination....

12. That's pretty lame considering it was a Republican event viewed by Repubican voters.
So, does this mean 2362 of the polls (very unscientific) participants are switching parties or are they just staying home in 2012?
