Obama underwater in NY
He's lost the suburbs.

It's the first time the president has been rated so low in NY.

August 12, 2011 - Obama Approval In New York Crash Dive, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; But Voters Back Pres Over Unnamed Gop Challenger

New York State voters disapprove 49 - 45 percent of the job President Obama is doing, a huge drop from his 57 - 38 percent approval June 29 and the first time the president ever has had a negative score in New York, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Democrats approve 75 - 19 percent, down from 82 - 12 percent in June. Disapproval is 86 - 10 percent among Republicans, compared to a 74 - 23 percent disapproval in June, and 58 - 36 percent among independent voters, compared to a slightly positive 49 - 45 percent in June, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.

Voters split 48 - 46 percent on whether President Obama deserves reelection and say 49 - 34 percent they would vote for him over an unnamed Republican.

"The debt ceiling hullaballoo devastated President Barack Obama's numbers even in true blue New York," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "He just misses that magic 50 percent mark against a no-name Republican challenger."

From August 3 - 8, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,640 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.4 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.

1. And this is NEW YORK.
Even money that they don't disapprove because he's been TOO LIBERAL.

2. People disapprove because he is so wishy-washy
He hasn't gotten up in front of Americans and drawn a line in the sand on anything. He is ineffectual and seems fuzzy, like you can't get a handle on him. Put him up against a forceful crazy person, and Americans will vote for the foreceful crazy every time. He has no fire and he needs to find some! Maybe on the jobs issue.

3. The only thing I hear from him on the jobs issue so far is to
gut SS funding even more and expand the payroll tax holiday to include employers.

7. He trots out this infrastructure idea all the time
but how does his plan work?

His big jobs plans also involve tax incentives to businesses/corporations (as if they need any more) and trade agreements which always fuck us workers. No murmur of reducing the importation of workers, or penalizing companies from outshoring (closing up shop here and moving overseas) or moving from one state to another for greater tax incentives and less labor costs. Never anything for the struggling unions fighting cuts in pensions, pay and health benefits. No wonder Labor is telling him to go pound sand this election season.

His plans always involve rewarding corporations.

4. People are genuinely hurting right now
Unemployed, underemployed, or know people that are. Cost of goods at the store are going up and up, meanwhile wages are not. It's not that hard to figure out why people are disappointed at this point, but they will come around when he is up for his second term. The alternative is unthinkable for smart minded folks.
