Brazil prison uses geese as alarm system
SAO PAULO (AP) -- An overcrowded prison in northeastern Brazil has added a new layer of security against escapes: two geese.

Sobral prison warden Wellington Picanco tells the G1 news website the geese make a lot of noise when they sense "strange movements."

He says the geese roaming the prison grounds also will help alert guards to the outbreak of violence among rival gangs at the overcrowded facility.

3. Geese are a VERY EFFECTIVE alarm..

And they can effectively attack too...

I believe the US Military even used them in Vietnam in remote freebases to alert the base when anyone would approach the base at night.

When I was 16 I went an visited a girlfriend's family farm late one night, I got sent down the the barn to get something, and their goose nearly "pecked my ass off". IMHO it was worse than a dog attack, you almost could not get a hold of its neck!!!!!! and when you did, it would beat you half to death with it's wings, All the while they was HONK, HONK, HONK, honking and raising all kinds of ruckus.

The old man and my girlfriend at the time came running and broke up the attack...As he was LOLing at me, he said, "You went to the WRONG barn Son".....

I am nearly 40 years old now, and I vividly remember that flock of geese descending on me....
