9. I use verizon for phone/computer and cable. Last night

I was in an online chat with a customer service agent. When I had my questions answered and ready to close session, agent wrote "is there anything else I can help you with?" My reply was, "it would be a good thing for you to join your CWA Local." Response from agent was"I have no information about that." Duh

Tell your son for me... I've been with Verizon since it was Ma Bell back in the 1980s. If Verizon doesn't do the right thing on this, I'm closing my account and I will write a letter saying why.

Good on your son and his coworkers for standing up for themselves (and the rest of us too, indirectly). It isn't an easy thing to do.
