Lottery systems are very, very secure ... and can be readily adapted to accepting votes. Complete accountability with both paper and electronic audit trails. Most states have lotteries ...

The point is, there is no excuse for doubt about the vote ... be it by electronic device, paper ballot, hanging chad, whatever ... as citizens, we have a RIGHT ... a FUCKING RIGHT to confidence in our voting system

And possibly more so. But it requires rigor. The Diebold system is a joke.

Any system can be hacked, with sufficient effort and expenditure. But systems can be designed so that the operators KNOW when they have been hacked, Secure transaction processing is not rocket science.

But the point of my post is that whatever the media ... we voters deserve to have confidence in the electoral process. I prefer hard paper trails myself ... and if you insist on electronic voting as a means of avoiding the "hanging chad" problem, then considerably more rigor must needs be (and can be) applied to the process.
