8. There's two models, of course. The other is being paid by sponsors.
TV is free because the entertainment exists to draw an audience, whose attention span become the product they sell to the advertisers. I personally like the illusion of "free" entertainment that creates for me.

10. Most TV isn't
Broadcast channels are; cable channels (which have smaller audiences) charge user fees in addition to advertising.

11. Or, you could pay for your consumption.
I pay for two newspaper subscriptions, in addition to my cable TV bill and internet service.

7. Press+ is easy to beat. You can still read it for free.
Edited on Mon Aug-08-11 02:22 PM by Xithras
At least, in Firefox and IE. Just drop into Porn Mode (aka Private Browsing Mode) and open up the site. Using your browsers Private Mode keeps websites from planting cookies and malware on your computer, keeps your spouse or boss from seeing those dirty sites you're looking at, and it also keeps Press+ from keeping track of how many news articles you're reading!

My local paper started using Press+ a number of months ago, with a limit of 20 free articles a month. I still read their paper every day, and only get their nag screen when I forget to drop into Porn Mode first :)

15. It's one of the main reasons I recently switched back to Firefox full time.
Porn mode on the new IE requires diving through a couple layers of flyout menus. In Firefox, it's right at the top of the first level menu...takes a half second to launch.
