6. He STILL hasn't figured out
that "ok kids, play nice" is not a message the GOP is hearing, and is not what Americans want to hear their president saying. Lead, goddamnit!

7. Yup. And saying, "these aren't Democratic ideas, these aren't big government ideas..." That's the
problem! We NEED big government ideas and DEMOCRATIC ideas!

11. too true
I'm sick of Democrats apologizing for principles that provide freedom from poverty and freedom from oppression.

9. What do they want to hear him say?
Is he expected to declare and promise actions which, by virtue of separation of powers, he can't actually fulfill? He can't simply take control and do what he wants. Congress exists for a reason, and Congress is the root of the problem.

12. At a minimum
He can call Congress obstructionist and dysfunctional. He can call the Republican Party extremist. He can reiterate that the economics of trickle-down have failed, and he won't be party to perpetrating their falsehood. He quote Boehner verbatim on the "laser-like focus on jobs" bullshit, then stare straight into the camera and ask: "well, John, where are they? In fact, forget the jobs for a minute -- where's your jobs bill? What have you guys been doing?"

He can lead -- in a fiercely partisan, overtly Democratic manner, like the very best of his predecessors (FDR, HST, and LBJ). Is that too much to ask?

15. He can set a different agenda and set the terms of debate
and push Congress to move in that direction.

He can call out the perpetrators of this mess BY NAME even if it means being less than "collegial" to his "friends across the aisle."

He can be a real Democrat.

Nobody is asking him to violate the separation of powers. That is a straw man that has been used to excuse his feckless leadership.

23. He acted like he had more influence when he was a first-term Senator
then he does now as a President.

Americans like it when reasonable people compromise and unreasonable people get their asses kicked. They don't like it when purportedly reasonable people throw good sense after bad and try to compromise with unreasonable people and we all get our asses kicked.

13. That was a long wait for POTUS Obama not saying much.
The GOP played politics over ordinary business and hurt us all.

Wish POTUS Obama was a stubborn as a mule and veto until Congress gets it right.

Tax the rich.

Regulate and tax corporations and financial institutions to benefit the People.

Make jobs.

Educate.

End stupid wars.

20. sadly, DU has become as toxic as No Quarter. Separation of Powers people!
the problem is congress and the fact that people sat on their hands during the midterms and let the wackos take over the house. Actually, a majority of the blame goes to those who failed to get up off of their collective asses and cast a vote!

22. Yes Yes Yes
and to suggest, in a speech to the Nation/World, he should call NAMES is absurd.

He went about as far as he could go in his opening remarks, suggesting problems caused by 'bad guys.' (my term) He MUST be diplomatic. On the stump, that's another thing.

Thanks
