'Reverse' call center outsourcing -- driven by broadband -- could create 100,000 U.S. jobs
Edited on Fri Aug-05-11 03:16 PM by True Earthling

A new coalition of contact center companies calling itself jobs4america has set a goal of creating 100,000 new jobs in the U.S. over the next two years—and the group today received strong praise from FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, who was on hand for an announcement of the coalition in Jeffersonville, Ind.

Jobs4america objectives could not be achieved without broadband, said Genachowski. “This center will power three or four times as many people working in their homes,” he explained. “It will do more than empower them to take calls and read a script. They will be able to process transactions almost all of their operations will rely on high-speed Internet. If you unplugged this facility from broadband, you wouldn’t have it. making homes virtual service centers as long as the homes are connected to broadband.”

Using home-based workers benefits companies that rely on call centers because there is less overhead, said Genachowski. And although that approach involves some business risks, Genachowski said he was “glad to see opportunities for people who can only work if they are working at home.” In recent years, many of those jobs would have been shipped out of the countries to call centers around the world.

3. This certainly seems like a step in the right direction.
Upgrading broadband throughout the country is another potentially huge job creator; actually, I'm pretty sure quite a few jobs have been created -- or simply saved -- in this area.

Anyway, I wasn't talking about taxes anywhere? I was talking about raising taxes, I was responding to the job creation opportunities in the area of both broadband and now this reverse call center approach.

:)

5. i would love to do call center work from home! i have been trying to find legitimate work i could
do from home that would allow me to make some money while still being able to be at home to take care of my kids. For me to get a job would be more than I would make considering daycare and gas and everything involved. I am kind of stuck. It would be a win for companies too because workers would be at their homes and be able to take care of things if they needed to.

6. Working From Home Also Saves a Ton of Energy (from Not Commuting)
and it means you can live pretty much anywhere you can get decent network connectivity.

7. Call centers now have stringent guidelines to protect privacy so how could
companies insure privacy when family and friends could be looking over the shoulder at files? Telemarketers might be able to operate from homes but customer service seems doubtful.
