Crews replace rural pump station after failing pipe caused pressure dip

-snip-

Stillwater Utilities Authority Director Dan Blankenship said the combined heat from that diesel pump and the recent hot weather combined to deform a plastic connector pipe that was above ground. The same conditions caused that pipe to fail and be replaced Monday night.

-snip-

“We had two choices last night: spend our time repairing the diesel connection, or pull it and replace the pipe with new station,” said Blankenship. “The choice was made to go ahead and pull the diesel.”

-snip-

Blankenship said the connector pipe for the new pump station is ductile iron pipe instead of the temporary plastic one. He added that the pump station is running near full capacity.

-snip-

The connector pipe at the pump station is another example of how high heat has stressed the city’s water infrastructure.

Stillwater, Okla. has remained sane - thank goodness

1. How ironic -- Stillwater threatened to have still water.

3. It is the materials.
They are using plastic instead of iron. Of course they are going to have problems with heat.

4. You'd think that if the pipe had running water in it, the water would be a coolant.
Perhaps diesel would have a lower flow rate, but wouldn't some insulation have been a good idea?
