Lawrence O’Donnell applauds N.J. Gov. Chris Christie for defending Muslim judge

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell gave Republican Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey a standing ovation on Thursday night for his impassioned defense of a Muslim judge.

“Sharia law has nothing to do with this at all,” the governor said. “It’s crazy. It’s crazy. The guy’s an American citizen who has been an admitted lawyer to practice in the state of New Jersey, swearing an oath to uphold the laws of New Jersey, the constitution of the state of New Jersey, and the Constitution of the United States of America and has never been accused of doing anything but honorably and zealously upholding the oath he took when he became a lawyer.”

“This sharia law business is crap,” Christie continued. “It’s just crazy. And I’m tired of dealing with the crazies. It’s just unnecessary to be accusing this guy of things just because of his religious background.”

I swear, this whole Sharia Law crap is nothing more than a bunch of right-wing bullshit used to scare and dumbdown the masses, kinda like part-birth abortions.

This rightwing crazies are more than happy to push a christianized version of Sharia Law into my personal life and then have the balls to claim muslims want to impose their own Sharia Law onto ours. It's stupid and people need to know it's stupid. I remember talking to a woman from Oklahoma who was scared shitless that their states was sheer moments away from imposing Sharia Law onto them and they had to pass that stupid, useless voter amendment just to protect the masses of stupidity.

It's a rare day I would say something good about Chris Christie, but I know New Jersey has their share of stupidity. It's nice to see Christie side on the side of intelligence, reason and logic. It might be a long time til we see that again from Christie, but for this - he did good.

1. And by sticking up for a Muslim judge, Christie has doomed any chance
he might have had to ascend any farther in Republican politics. Heresy! He just said all the frothing over Sharia law was bullshit, and for that he shall be punished by the Teahadists. I wonder what the knuckledraggers over yonder at FR have to say about the apostate Governor?

2. Who specifically was charging the judicial nominee with applying Sharia Law instead of
NJ and federal case law?

3. Not sure of the backstory but one can assume it was probably Tea Party supporters
who would prefer the Christianized verion of Sharia Law instead

Personally I'd rather have none of the above!

8. It wouldn't be below Chris Christie to call a press conference, make a claim
that an unindentified critic warned against installing a Muslim judge and resultant Sharia Law. Maybe I'm cynical. Maybe I'm realistic. But I don't believe there was any significant complaint.

4. Chris Christie Is Aligned with Rove and the Bush Family
The Bush family is aligned very strongly with wealthy, powerful Arab families like the Saudi royal family. The Bushes do not buy into the Islam bashing that's in vogue within the Republican party.

7. You know I can't stand Christie, but I will give kudos from time to time..
when something is done right.

Who knows, Christie could have a vast major wakeup call and realize these teabaggers are nuts and he should run New Jersey from the middle and not the hard core right

It's a nice dream but I know that ain't happening!

9. Chris Christie Has No Integrity
He's not signing on with the Islamophobes out of integrity. He's doing it to keep in good graces with the Bush family. He wants to be Jeb's VP in 2016.
