WaPo (10/2010) - "Obama calls for $50 billion infrastructure initiative" - What Happened Next?
There is this big myth that President Obama has not pushed for infrastructure spending. Heck, he constantly mentions the need for new infrastructure spending even now. Of course, after President Obama made this speech, House Republicans won in a landslide on a perverse message of job growth through spending cuts. Thus, we are in crisis we are in today, because the American people put a bunch of economic illiterates in control of the House.

Yet, there is such a strong need to Blame Democrats and Give Republicans a free pass that we somehow spend most of the bandwidth on this Board attacking Democrats while ignoring the insane shit being pushed on the right. Am I on the right board? Where can we wake the American people up and point out that putting Republicans in control of the House was a bad idea?

President Obama called on lawmakers Monday to back an ambitious initiative to modernize the nation's crumbling roads, railways and airports, saying the strategy would not only improve the economy in the long run but create good jobs now.

On the heels of a report last week showing the jobless rate stuck at 9.6 percent, Obama touted his infrastructure plan as the ideal antidote, noting that unemployment is particularly high in the construction trades.

"Nearly one in five construction workers is still unemployed and needs a job. And that makes absolutely no sense when so much of America needs rebuilding," Obama told reporters in the Rose Garden.

"Investing in infrastructure is something members of both political parties have always supported," Obama said. "There's no reason why we can't do this. This is work that needs to be done. There are workers who can do it. All we need is the political will."

2. You could fund it by requiring all of our gas taxes be put in the fund.
Like they are supposed to be now.

3. Obama lost the House over jobs. That means he had a Democratic congress
for two years before people gave up.

He's not going to get he House back until that situation changes.
