Jeffs fathered baby with 15-year-old, DNA allegedly shows

The teenage girl in the photo looks like she might be a big sister holding the tiny baby in her arms.

But prosecutors say she is the infant’s mother — and that Warren Jeffs, the 55-year-old leader of her polygamous sect, is the baby’s father.

A forensic DNA expert testified Monday in Jeffs’ sexual assault trial there is a 99.99996 percent probability that Jeffs fathered the child.

Jeffs tells girls to cooperate with sister wives, including in sex, tape reveals

Invoking revelations from God, Warren Jeffs instructed 12 of his plural wives on group sex, becoming comfortable nude and how they should care for their body hair in what he called a "training," according to an audio recording played in court Tuesday.

The wives all undressed and put on white robes as Jeffs began to speak in the December 2004 recording, Texas Ranger Nick Hanna testified. One wife in the group, prosecutors say, was a 14-year-old girl whose parents brought her to be married to Jeffs. The ages of the other wives were not specified.

"You have to know how to be excited sexually and to be excited to administer that comfort and strength," Jeffs is heard on the recording. "And you have to be able to assist each other. No one sits around, everyone assists each other."...(more)

She is full of faith and sweetness," Hanna read in a notation allegedly written by Jeffs. "Keep sweet" in the FLDS church is a common phrase referring to a member's willingness to follow the principles of the religion and avoid provocation to anger or other negativity.

Hanna said the rape of the 12-year-old girl took place in the temple, a large white structure that towers over the other buildings on the sprawling ranch, which Jeffs built in the rural cattle country starting in 2003.

"She experienced the heavenly session and obtained a greater testament," Hanna quoted Jeffs as writing about his sexual encounter with the girl. "She felt the all consuming fire of heaven."

The jury then listened to an audio recording that Jeffs secretly made of the incident, in which the voices of both Jeffs and the girl can be heard. At the end of the recording, both the girl and Jeffs say "Amen."
