Every time a senator says GOP has gun to their head, ask why they didn't take out filibuster bullet
when they had a chance.

Seriously, reporters should ask this question, and also ask if the regret NOT changing filibuster rules and whether they will do so at the next opportunity.

If they don't have a good answer for that, all their pissing and moaning is like the pre-fight interviews on professional wrestling.

1. Because they know more about the Senate than the "kill the filibuster" crowd does?
They have a longer-term perspective.

One side recognizes the danger of trading away your next four 1st-round draft pics for a starting QB... the other just wants to win next week's game regardless of what it takes.

5. Translation: "But they lost last week!!!"
Thus demonstrating my point. Thanks.

Even a losing team (and in the senate, ESPECIALLY a losing team) needs to avoid trading away the future for a short-term present.

Republicans WILL control the senate again some day. At this rate probably pretty soon. The filibuster exists for a reason.

3. and the Dems hardly ever used it themselves when Republicans controlled the Senate under Bush
so if they won't pull the trigger when they have the gun, they should at least throw it away so the other guy can't use it when he needs it.

We just didn't abuse it the way they have.

4. Make no mistake, if the GOP ever takes the senate, say goodbye the any notion of 60 votes.

8. they are dying in the long term because of demographics which is why they are so radical
at the moment--they are doing all this so they will still have power well after they can't win a majority of elections in the country.
