MSNBC Execs "over the moon" about Melissa Harris-Perry
:applause:

This week MSNBC executives expressed unreserved enthusiasm about another substitute for Ms. Maddow, Melissa Harris-Perry, a professor of political science at Tulane University, who filled in for the first time last week. In an interview Mr. Griffin cited her strong ratings and asked, “How could you not be over the moon about her?”

“She even handled breaking news last week, with he debt-ceiling votes happening,” he said. “She was off prompter, off script, she had people talking in her ear, and she handled it all.”

That kind of reaction is not unlike how MSNBC executives spoke about Ms. Maddow before she was eventually hired as a regular host. Mr. Griffin said, “This reminds me of how it went with Rachel.” But he indicated that he is not ready to sign Ms. Harris-Perry as a full-time host yet.

“Our whole thing is about creating a stable,” he said, adding that the strategy for Ms. Harris-Perry is “to continue to develop her, find places where she can fill in more. Things happen. Who knows?”

If anything, Ms. Maddow was even more impressed by her replacement. “She was awesome,” Ms. Maddow said. “She has been a phenomenal guest and bringing her in as a contributor was exactly the right thing to do. To see her up here and clicking with the teleprompter after like the first date, and to see the audience reaction both anecdotally and quantitatively, I just couldn’t be happier.”

6. Christ, they act like it takes super humans to "talk off prompter". In Bush's case, sure that's true
But he was a complete freakin' moron!

Melissa is a professor for crying out loud.
It's not like she's not used to speaking in front of people.

9. She was great - but Griffin should rethink using terms like
'creating a stable'. She is neither a horse nor a whore.

I understand the usage in journalism and news, but it certainly looks awkward in print!

10. I'm also very proud of Rachel for given Melissa the praise she
so richly deserves. In the tv business it takes a self-confident person to do that, pushing her own ego aside for another. I love both of them.

26. I can't stand tp listen to his voice and the other night with two slots
was more than I could take. I'd like more Indies and ReThugs to watch MSNBC and learn something and turn off FOX, but I think Al will turn them off. We need someone who they can enjoy listening to and learn from. Al just doesn't do it.

14. I like her, but I think she needs develop a style more her own...
... In watching her last week, it struck me that she was doing a kind of imitation of Rachel's style. Given that she is not an experienced TV host, that is understandable enough. But I think she needs someone to work with her on developing a more distinctive style that people will recognize as her own.

She's a professor at a renown university, so she is used to speaking to a group and having to deal with distractions, such as people talking on the side.

Love her and would welcome her to MSNBC, but I've cut back watching it after the Cenk business.

a good and decent soul, but I simply can't stand to hear him speak. I haven't watched CNN for almost 2 years, but switch to them when he's on.

I'm really sorry to have to say this, I have NOTHING against Al, he just sets my nerves on end. I'm sure it's just a personal thing for me, but I HAVE TRIED very hard to deal with it. Just can't!

can put together cogent thoughts. College professors are USED to leading discussions, being interrupted, and they KNOW their "stuff".

That's why Rachel is so good at it too.. SMART, fast-thinking people who know things are likely to do well:)

When you hire people for their looks and their cleavage, you NEED the other stuff..and even then they often fall on their faces..
