Sewer leak in Whitehall Township results in small spill, pipe replacement

The leak in the 16-inch pipeline that carries untreated sewage waste toward the county's wastewater site in Egelston and Moorland township for treatment resulted in about 2,000 gallons of sewage spilling into a nearby ditch adjacent to Wesco, 3090 Colby, and Advance Auto Parts, 3274 Colby.

County officials were scheduled to meet Tuesday with Michigan Department of Environmental officials at the site of the leak.

Eisenbarth said officials are also determining the condition of that section of the pipe, which was installed in 1972. He said the initial examination showed the rest of the pipe looked in good condition.
