What Gandhi had to say about Compromise
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 12:29 PM by Bandit
I read this a while back and don't have the exact quote but here is the jist of it. Compromise is about give and take, and that is good, however one does not Compromise Core Beliefs. That is called surrender not Compromise.

2. You know what my CORE belief is?
Not to let the United States of America default on it's debt therefore sinking our credit rating which would devalue the dollar which would make it exponentially harder on the poor and lower middle class, who are already struggling to begin with....

But hey, fuck them, I want my progressive ideals untarnished by the reality of the situation..

3. And guess what? This "compromise" still fucks the power and lower class over
Granted, it will take longer, but it's going to happen anyway. Oh, and that credit rating? News reports I've read this morning say it might get downgraded anyway.

5. the line between being "fucked over" and
death is much finer for those who have the least.

That DOES matter to me.

As for it 'taking longer' to reach death, well, none of us will escape that- no matter how we try.

7. Obama didn't demand a clean debt ceiling raise.
Which he could have done when giving away tax cuts to the rich, or at the beginning of these current talks, or ever.

He could have at least tried. Of course, when has he ever fought for anything?

12. I meant more than once.
Throwing one punch in a fight against your enemy and then trying to shake his hand the rest of the time will always end up in someone getting their ass kicked.

13. So if Obama just got up and kept pitching the same deal I'm sure the quote about
how insanity is the process of repeating something over and over and expecting different results...

You're upset he didn't stand up for a clean debt bill.... He did

SO now you're upset he had done it over and over again...

I bet if he had you'd be upset about that too...Claiming some sort of indignation about how he isn't protecting the American people from default, or ending wars or something! Anything !

Maybe I'm wrong..but I don't think I am...

17. Isn't that exactly what the Republican party has done for years on tax cuts?
Of course it hasn't worked out well for them at all.. oh wait.

18. Worked great for them yes.. Not so well for the country....
It's a tactic that lets you win if your only playing for your team

Problem with being progressives.. We play for everyone...

20. So weakening safety nets while creating free trade agreements that will make it easier to offshore
jobs and keeping taxes low for the rich is called "playing for everyone"? You have a mighty funny definition of everyone. It excludes 90% or so of the population, for starters.

Obama backed it so it must be good! Stop questioning Him!

I really appreciate your well thought out and valid discussion of my own personal politcal beliefs.

I mean even though you and I have never talked, met, or even debated online I'm sure you must have a clear grasp as to what I believe and the convictions I hold.

Very insightful, Very intelligent, and not rude what so ever...

Well done my friend

Well done indeed.

19. He doesn't say to make everything a core belief
I would imagine as to that, he meant only the biggest and most important issues.
