1. Unless both houses vote to extend them, they expire. So it all depends

on who we elect to the 2012 Congress.

Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 10:03 AM by jpak
If I am correct, the "deal" does not extend them.

and they expire Dec 31, 2012

Am I wrong?

4. You are right.
That way they can fuck us over again, right after the elections.

And if Obama couldn't pull it out in this situation, what makes you think he'll be able to do it again later?

6. no, it now kinda depends on what the bipartisan committee
comes up with for "tax reform". If they pass some excrement like the gang of six AND the catfood commission proposed, then that will presumably trump the sunset of the Bush tax cuts.

And that is the really scary part, because Obama does not seem to be opposing those awful "tax reforms".

14. Will the "Super Congress" have a say in this?
Or, by that time, will we have a "Super-Duper Congress?"

3. Another "big deal compromise" will be cut to extend the tax cuts for the wealthy.

10. We're talking about the current "deal" - try again
I read nothing about extending the Bush tax cuts or repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax.

Am I wrong?

7. Oh no, he accidentally signed them.
He was walking by his desk one day, and slipped on a banana peel one of the devilish Republicans put down, and accidentally signed them into law.

9. Unless this horrible, right wing Congress rams through another extension
they will die a humiliating death on December 31, 2012.

I have a feeling this is the only business Congress will take up until then. I also have a feeling that the only thing that will prevent their doing it is an avalanche of threatening letters from the public telling them if they do such a stupid thing, they're out.

12. Unless Obama extends them...again.
Of course, he did say he expected a "vigorous debate" during the 2012 presidential election.

In two years, he said, "It will become apparent that we can't afford these tax cuts any longer." The White House said it expects a vigorous debate about that during the 2012 presidential election.

USA Today

So, folks, be prepared for a vigorous debate!!! :woohoo:

13. well if the bipartisan deficit committee
comes up with something like the disgusting gang of six did, then no, the Bush tax cuts will not expire. Instead, tax law will be replaced by supposed "revenue enhancing reform", and if it follows the gang of six

a. it will increase revenues only over a Bush tax cut baseline
b. it will provide even larger tax cuts for the rich
c. the revenue enhancements will come from the middle class

and remember, when the gang of six came out with their plan Obama didn't go :argh: instead he went :applause:

to which I gotta say :wtf: :nuke: :puke: :hurts:

16. Don't think the Obama tax cuts will be allowed to expire: after all, further cuts
can be made to social security, Medicare, and Medicaid sufficient to assure those tax cuts for the wealthy are, in effect, made permanent, Now is this not some great kind of Republic or what, realizing the elected pols ignore the wishes/wants/needs of 70% -80% of the people who put them in office solely to allow the uber-wealthy and large corporations to continue their feeding frenzy sucking at the public welfare teat? :patriot:
