The myth of Obama's "blunders" and "weakness" TOON
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 08:36 AM by Chimichurri

(cartoon from http://www.correntewire.com/american_extremists_hearing_deficit)

Glenn Greenwald explains:
It appears to be true that the President wanted tax revenues to be part of this deal. But it is absolutely false that he did not want these brutal budget cuts and was simply forced -- either by his own strategic "blunders" or the "weakness" of his office -- into accepting them. The evidence is overwhelming that Obama has long wanted exactly what he got: these severe domestic budget cuts and even ones well beyond these, including Social Security and Medicare, which he is likely to get with the Super-Committee created by this bill (as Robert Reich described the bill: "No tax increases on rich yet almost certain cuts in Med and Social Security . . . . Ds can no longer campaign on R's desire to Medicare and Soc Security, now that O has agreed it").

1. Obama is not a liberal. We should stop pretending he is.
He BELIEVES tax cuts create jobs - not demand. He BELIEVES that regulations are always unduly burdensome to business - that that they protect consumers & citizens from corporate crimes & scams. He BELIEVES that when you're dealing with RW extremists, to get to the center you must start at the center.

2. I had to be slapped with this to finally have a change of heart.
I've been denying this for years.

I'm no longer denying it.

4. High level pols (of any party) are owned & operated by the ones who give them the most money
We have not had anything remotely resembling liberalism since LBJ , and we have been "eating" the backlash ever since.

The media & communication system we have now, pretty much means that we will never be any more "liberal" than we are now..we are on a death march to mean-spirited conservatism, because that's what generates cash for the uppercrusties..
