Morrissey says Norway massacre is "nothing" compared to the actions of fast food chains
Source: Mirror

MORRISSEY has sparked outrage after saying the tragedy in Norway was “nothing” compared to the actions of fast food chains.

The controversial singer, 52, made his remark while on stage at a gig in Warsaw on Sunday night.

Before launching into his hit Meat is Murder, the outspoken vegetarian made reference to the horrific events last Friday.

Referring to the death toll as thought at the time he said: “We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead. Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried S*** every day.”

1. I've always considered him to be weird
This kinda confirms it. Hardly surprising that it caused outrage.

2. I don't think it's weird. It's courageous to speak the truth like that, knowing that scorn will rain
down on him.
It's only outrageous if you assume that human life is sacred, while non-human life is not.

18. Or we could just think he is an ASSHOLE
Because only an ASSHOLE would say such an ASSHOLE thing.

Only assholes bend every fucking tragedy to their agenda. He is an asshole and anyone who agrees with him is pretty close to an asshole themselves.

24. Sure. Say that to the face of a parent whose child was shot to death.
"Come on. Chillax. There are people down the street eating fried chicken every day. Those chickens' parents know your pain, but you don't see them crying."

29. WHATEVER! I cherish all living things...
but to equate the life of a cow or a chicken with the life of child is taking one's politics to point of insanity. It just makes any worthwhile stance one would have for animal rights & makes a joke out it.

39. Wow, what an utter lack of context.
You care more about cows going to slaughter than the illegal immigrants who pick your vegetables for your high and mighty diet.

Contempt for humanity, thats what that sounds like.

43. Scorn? How much do you think he was paid for that show?
Answer: more than you make this quarter. Some kind of scorn. What he was doing was exploiting the story as a way to promote his own musical products. Exploiting life to make a buck, exploiting tragedy, for profit. It is outrageous if you feel all life is more sacred than some hacks bank account.
Meat Is Murder, but sing that song and you make a killing. An exploitative hack calling others exploitative as part of his exploitation.
The carbon footprint of a tour like his is degrading to the environment. But, it makes money for the man, and thus, it is off the list of things we consider morally. That is, it is what he does, and therefore it is good. I reject that concept.

55. what does fast food have to do with anything?
How are fast food products different than what is served at chains like applebees, outback, chilis, olive garden and mimis?

Frankly if you take a little time looking at the nutritional menus you will see that chains like the ones I mentioned have much more unhealthy food than the fast food chains, but for whatever reason places like mcdonalds have become easy targets.

19. Cool people sometimes say really stupid things. This makes me wince.
Despite being a vegetarian myself, I would never even think the thought that came out of Moz's mouth.

But I can get pretty hot under the collar whenever I think about how chickens and pigs and cows are so often treated before it becomes America's food. Horrible, horrible, horrible. When I see a truck of tiny, crowded cages of birds or animals that have lived a crappy life and will have a crappy death so people can lick their chops over MEAT!!, I want to run the truck off the road.

The Smiths were right: Meat (as it is often produced in this country) is Murder.

The Norway tragedy is a whole OTHER category of horrible, though. No comparison, Moz!!!

Oh.... just savour that insanity. I used to hate Morrissey. As Robert Smith said, "If Morrissey says, 'don't eat meat', then I'm going to eat meat, because I hate Morrissey."

Now, however, I think he's the closest thing we have going to 1970s Elvis, and it's just adorable.
