Bill Maher ‘terribly disappointed’ with Obama, but Republicans ‘certainly a$$holes’
Source: RawReplay
By Eric W. Dolan

Bill Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time, sat down with MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell Tuesday night to discuss the ongoing debt negotiations.

Maher said he was “disappointed, terribly disappointed” with President Barack Obama.

“I don’t know what is going on in this man’s mind,” he continued. “I like Obama so much, I’m always trying to understand what he is dealing with, and I understand he’s got a lot to deal with. Washington is very tough and the Republicans are certainly assholes — oh, sorry, wrong network for that — but I just don’t get this giving away the store. I mean, I never thought he would be caving on the revenue side of it.”

1. That's awfully funny coming from Maher.
Somebody who doesn't seem to recognize the distinction between actually having to work to fix a problem, and standing around on the sidelines criticizing. Maher confuses being loud with being an effective voice.

5. What he should do is recognize the difference between comedy and governing.
In other words, be a little more like Jon Stewart. Jon knows the line between insightful commentary/mockery, and acting like you know better than everyone else, and he walks it pretty well. It's really easy to pretend everything is simple, when you're not responsible for anything.

2. Maher mostly wants the President to throw some more punches and define himself as a Democrat

and not just when the clock is ticking down to zero, as with the Bush tax cut extension and now this. If this experience doesn't yield that result, I would be surprised.

3. I didn't really like his idea about taking a loan from the bankers and paying them back.
that was a gilded age thing. A one time wind fall profit tax that suspends the bonuses on Wallstreet OK.
